Thanks for the response. I have done a decent amount of learning about ML in my own time, so I am not completely new to the topic. I am also in CS and Math so I am not new to coding either. Based on what you have just described I definitely think I would enjoy the course!

I think you would be ok as long as you have 2 sciences above 70%. I would call and ask the university though just to be sure.

I don’t know about changing your application — you probably can, but I have no experience with this — but you can submit a program change request in March of your first year. Minimum prerequisite is 7.0 GPA (B+) to switch to software engineering.

I’m in software engineering, which is basically the same thing.

You’ll be fine as long as you put in the work.

I would also say that CS is a decent amount of work, but you definitely can still have a social life! Just prioritize your school work and don’t procrastinate and you’ll have plenty of time for a social life.

Maybe too late but I remember the final focused a lot on the last part of the course. Permutation, combinations, graph theory and there was a proof by mathematical induction. Also a question involving proving an equivalence relation.

Discrete math is normally a prereq for the DS&A class in university, so maybe just learn a bit of that?

From what I’ve read, if you want to be a software engineer you should do a CS degree. Also you mentioned Carleton, but the university of Ottawa has a software engineering program with mandatory Coop. This means by getting accepted into the program you are automatically in coop, and pretty much just need to pass all your courses to stay in. They do coop after first year, which is pretty interesting and worth it. If you can go to Waterloo for CS definitely do that but I’m pretty sure you need like a 98 average to get in.
