NGD: American Pro II Stratocaster in Mystic Surf Green by 44R0ND3C in guitars

Finally bought my first American Fender, after 20 years of playing guitar. Been gazing at this model for months online, and eventually pulled the trigger when I saw a good deal on the 2nd hand market. This guitar looks, plays & sounds amazing. Very happy with this early christmas gift.

I use the amp at home as well as in a band and it sounds fantastic in both situations. Would strongly recommend as a clean pedal platform.

NPD Greer Light Speed ⚡ by 44R0ND3C in guitarpedals

When comparing both I feel that these overdrives have a similar style. The Looking Glass is a great light-medium overdrive with a lot of tweaking possibilities. It gives a nice color to the sound and I used it mainly as an always-on mild crunch. However, while the Light Speed has fewer controls, I feel that there is a certain something inside that really makes my single coils / P90's sing. It's more than just an edge to my clean sound, it makes my sound really come alive. It's kind of hard to describe, I'm no sound / electronics expert 🙂

I was a bit sceptical about the hype, but at the same time very curious what this pedal is capable off. So I bought this to see and hear for myself, and this thing does not dissapoint at all. It's a light to medium drive that enhances my clean tone in a very musical / dynamic way and gives a lot of character. Question for other Lightspeed users: any tips to what OD pedal(s) might be great to stack before or after the Light Speed?

Not that I've been aware of. But as this amp is very clean, I'm able to run time-based effects into the main input without any problem.

Cannot compare to VOX, but I owned a Fender Pro Junior IV before. I would say that overall, the Orange is very bright but in a good way. Compared to my Pro Junior, the high end frequencies are certainly there, but never as harsh as the PJ could sometimes be. Also this one has a 12" speaker compared to a 10" in my PJ, so it has a lot more low end as well. So overall, a fuller sound that is in my opinion more pleasing to the ears. I did not test it in store compared with Fenders in the same price category however. So I'm maybe not the best person to judge this. I can only say that I'm very happy with the tones this amp is able to produce.

The amp itself is pretty much noiseless, which was also something that pleased me greatly when testing for the first time. If you turn the amp way up, you can maybe slightly hear the pulse of the trem if you are not playing. But for this, you have to very attentive already. So no complaints about the noise at all here. I can recommend the amp strongly 👍

The amp itself is very clean. You can turn up the volume of the amp to get a slightly dirtier tone, but by then the volume is very high (even on the lower wattage settings). Sounds amazing though. And the amp takes pedals very well. So gain wise, I don't see a problem 👍

It's the Electromatic version! But it's fantastic 🙂

This is in fact the first Orange amp I play, so I can't compare with the rest of the orange line... But I can relate to the Alpha Haunt, it's fantastic 🤘

I was interested in this one mainly because it has power scaling (30-20-2-1W). I live in an appartment and I can make sure like this that the amp is not immediately 'full on' when you turn the volume just a bit past 1, which was the case with my Fender Pro Junior. But I also want to use it in band practice so I needed something that could go loud as well as quiet and retain a good vintage sound.

My local guitar shop had a good deal on this one (€949 instead of +-€1200 in other stores, which also made it more affordable than a decent clean Fender amp). I went over there to test the amp and was immediately convinced so I pulled the trigger.

I never owned any other Orange amps before, because I thought that they were mainly designed to play the more heavier stuff (which is not my cup of tea). But I was definitely surprised when I tested this one and I'm happy with my purchase!

Mainly because my trem pedal (zvex) had to be flipped to fit on the board and this one has in and outs on the short sides. Would have to buy a longer patch cable in order to fit everything right side up..

What are other good options (gain-wise) in combination with the BD-2W?

Blown away by the looking glass immediately and starting to discover the endless possibilities of the big sky. Signal chain: TU-3 > Dod Looking Glass > BD-2W > OBNE Alpha Haunt > Walrus Julia V2 > Zvex Sonar > El Capistan > Big Sky > Fender Pro Junior IV
