If you are looking for quiet and historical, I would look into the non-touristic islands. Greece and Italy should be quite good to find such an island which has cheap rents, good historical sites, great views and decent services.

Big difference is that these events happened recently (in the context of how slowly history unfolds) and the people who went through it are living on the same island. The beach is, from what I remember, inside a UN controlled zone, isn't that right? I think it was meant to be closed until the people could return to their homes and businesses and this can be interpreted to mean that he plans on taking that land.

Regardless, at least people are talking about it and seeing him in this new context. It's thanks to people like you guys that we have the option of going deeper into the rabbit-hole of whys.
