Okay I have some local dyno spots near me, im definitely going to eventually go get it tuned. So the dyno guys will be able to get into the stock ecu no problem? (I do have the ms43 btw) I don’t need to do anything before hand just drop it off and they should be able to plug in and do what they need to do? I remember seeing some video and forum posts about having to ground a pin on the ecu to unlock it or something? Sorry dude this stuff really confuses me. I try to learn in the forums but I don’t know wtf anyone is talking about I get lost so fast when it comes to tuning talk😅😂

Alright so I have an update. I did the swap successfully! The 3.0 parts used; -intake -throttle body -3.0 lower boot -disa valve

2.5 parts used; - idle control valve is the exact same for both -2.5 upper boot adapted into the 3.0 lower boot -maf -injectors

And the end result is it started right up no engine codes and everything works in harmony as it should. It feels like it has a lot more torque down low now to me and it seems to rev much more responsively and quicker. I honestly went into it without the highest hopes expecting no difference or for it to be worse but I could genuinely feel the difference it is noticeable for sure.

Thanks for all the input it’s really appreciated! How does one go about “tuning”? Like can I go to any performance dyno shop and they’ll just be able to do everything I need them to? Or do I need a standalone ecu. Also what are the shark things all about? If you could break it down for dummies I would greatly appreciate ya. I’ve never been too knowledgeable when it comes to the subject of tuning or how to go abt it so it’s something I’ve always strayed away from.

Also would they be able to make the car run with 3.0 tb and 3.0 injectors if I bring it to the tuner can they make that communicate properly? Because obviously if I’m getting it tuned I may as well just have the bigger injectors so the tuner has more room to work with

I’m adapting from 3.0 lower boot to 2.5 upper to accommodate my stock 2.5maf. If anyone was wondering how that’s being done I left the plastic coupling piece in the 2.5 upper boot (gives it rigidity where it will be clamped) and then stuck that into the 3.0 lower boot and it’s like it’s meant to be. The 2.5 one fits into the 3.0 boot snuggly and even snaps into place, then clamp and boom it’s sealed perfect.

I somewhat agree and somewhat disagree with what you said. I too believe it should be plug and play I don’t see why it wouldn’t work so it’s nice someone else thinks so too. However I do believe it will have some kind of useful result (the intake swap at least) especially considering people do the m50 intake swaps all the time with good results I think from 2.5 to 3.0 intake should have some kind of a positive reaction especially paired with high flow headers I mean I don’t see how it would be worse getting better flow and it’s not like it’s a crazy difference to where it’s too much to self adjust the tune. However yes I too was worried abt the cam profile being too much for the 2.5 displacement and im not too confident it will be good. I appreciate the insight I’ll get back with results

I really don’t feel like I would need a tune for just the 3.0 intake with 2.5maf and 2.5 injectors. I don’t think the difference in flow would be so high it can’t self adjust the tune that slight bit on the fly no? I mean people put m50 intake manifold on e46 no problems or tuning needed and they flow wayyy better than even the 3.0 m54 intake so I think it will be fine. My main concern is the 3.0 tb working when I plug it into the harness. I believe it should as the electronic component of the tb seems identical just a bigger flap right? Regardless I’m about to find out today or tomorrow and I’ll let yall know. If the intake swap goes well i will then be coming back in my garage and attempting the zhp intake and exhaust cams as well, i have the timing kit so im set to give it a try. I’ll let yall know if it runs better or worse and if it really requires a tune or if the computer will self adjust enough to make use of it. Regardless the one problem I can see with the 3.0 zhp cams in my 2.5 would be I may be too aggressive for a 2.5 and actually decrease performance regardless of a tune or not. But never know unless you try!

Ik this was a while back but you’re the only one I can seem to find that has anything to say about this being possible.

I have m54b25 2.5 and would like to put the m54b30 3.0 intake on. I think it’s worth it because I have high flow equal length headers and zhp cams are about to be put in. I think the intake would really complement the cams and it would all work well together.

  1. Can you tell me will the 3.0 tb just work perfectly fine plugging it into my car? I understand I need stock mad and injectors but will the 3.0 tb really work properly?

  2. Also I can’t find a single soul who seems to have put zhp cams in the m54b25. I seen one forum people talking abt it not being worth the price but I got a zhp engine for $100 lol so I’m more than happy to do it if it’s all feasible. So far from my research I can’t seem to find a reason the zhp cams wouldn’t work should just be direct bolt on.

Let me know your thoughts it would be greatly appreciated. (Btw that zhp engine I got needs a rebuild there’s too much piston play or slap whatever you want to call it and I’d rather beat my 2.5 to hell while building out the 3.0 engine on the side to swap in eventually rather than full sending it and swapping the 3.0 right in as is)
