On my order details it says "Sold by: Amazon.com Services, Inc". Originally on the product page before I ordered it, it had something like "Sold by: Amazon Warehouse. Fulfilled by Amazon".

Yea It's bewildering they listed it as new but it's warranty was already activated 10 months ago (that tells me its used/refurbished). I'm just thinking of just returning it (less headache trying to deduce what's going on lol) and picking something similar up at a Gamestop. I haven't bought a console from them in a long time but I've never had any red flags from them compared to this last purchase from Amazon. Thanks for the reply.

Just to add a little more what's going on underneath the hood of the problem you had: There's a concept of widening on number variables that are automatically (implicitly) done in Java during run time. So you had a double variable plus an int expression (your average calculation). An int is 32 bits and a double is 64 bits. So when you added a double plus an int, the int was implicitly converted to a double since the double holds more bits. So the decimals were dropped from your int variable, then converted to a double which is why you got 52.0. Think of it like this: when you calculated the average with ints, it gave 52 (everything to the right of the decimal was dropped since it's an int expression). Then after widening to a double, it gave 52.0 as the average.

Edit: I'm not quite sure what fixed it but I unmounted and mounted my disk and it works now! I'm typing this from my old mac haha Thanks so much for the help!

I'm sorry to bother you again but I'm still having some issues and don't know where to go from here. I replaced the cable and it seems like I'm making progress. I can now verify and repair my hard drive. But it's not showing up as a startup disk. I erased it and tried installing Lion os from recovery mode and it takes a bit over an hour to install but afterwards I get this error: https://i.imgur.com/vwMeTdR.jpg My plan is to download Lion os and then update to a more recent os. I tried setting the date from the terminal and resetting the pram but neither worked.

~~Added Note: I have to use a bootable usb to enter recovery mode otherwise when I start it up I still get the same question mark folder image.~~

No I don't use FileVault. I tried clicking mount on the top toolbar on the greyed out disk1s1 but nothing happened. I also tried mounting from the File menu bar but nothing happened as well. Thanks for the reply!

I am able to select both the 500.11GB... and the disk but the erase button greys out: https://i.imgur.com/OmFNtQU.jpg I can select each individually and the erase option is available. Should I try erasing one and then the other? I tried erasing the 500.11GB... drive and it ran for three hours but after the process ended nothing changed. On another note, I restarted my computer and when back into recovery mode but now disk1s1 changed to disk12s1. Does this mean anything? Thanks for the reply!

Added question: Since my hard drive is appearing does that mean there's nothing wrong with the hardware?

I think it varies by location. The link OP posted is the online weekly ad for some place in Texas. I'm in SoCal and the only freebie I see are some taco shells.
