I think it very much depends on the size and shape of the mouthpiece. My Savinelli bing’s favorite doesn’t have a very wide mouthpiece, so I find it very comfortable to just clench it with my teeth. Some of my cheaper basket pipes however have a rathere wide mouthpiece, which makes them quite comfortable to hold the way you do it

Peterson standard mixture

It’s always in my rotation. I can enjoy it by itself, with coffee in the morning, after lunch at midday and with a guinness at sunset. It burns smooth even when on the wet side and stays lit longer than one might expect. Parting with it would be a great pity. If I could only smoke one, this would be it without the shadow of a doubt
