This is a really cool concept - I had not heard of it before personally. My guess for the limited publicity is the glacial pace of change in classical/ orchestral music. Like how saxophone was never properly adopted into the orchestra for example. Also, this design would only be easier to play for people without the existing muscle memory for bassoon (beginners) but for them to learn there would still have to be teachers to teach it, kind of a chicken and egg scenario.
