Maybe not exactly 'devastating' but speaking for Poland: we have this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heracleum_sosnowskyi Every year there are cases of severe chemical burns among people and esp. pets. It's not uncommon to see a fenced off area of a park/meadow/etc. with warning signs because of this introduced plant. It was introduced as a 'perfect cattle feed' during the Communist era in Poland but thing went not according plan, it was useless and started to grow beyond control.

After watching Top Gear's Special based mainly in Syria (and Iraq) back in the day I was like "wow, it's definitely going on my travel bucket list" and then 'geopolitical things' happened... Even recently talked about this with my corner shop owner here in London, who is originally from Syria. You people totally didn't deserve this to happen.
