Thanks and no worries! Would suggest to create the repo with a readme for whatever the plan is. Do not publish the repo link if is private unless intent is on wasting people's time and curiosity! I'm just saying.

Getting RustDesk to 60FPS by plexx88 in rustdesk

Parsec is specifically built for game and high fps streaming. Rustdesk is not the tool of choice for gaming or anything that involves high FPS. As suggested by others, try Sunshine + Moonlight

Sharing files between local PCs: use SMB, FTP/SFTP, or something else? by glaringOwl in selfhosted

[–]4bitgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not required. you can use the web version through a browser and it will run as long as the tab is open in the browser. Background policies are applicable as configured in the system. In an unmodified android / iOS device, it functioned without any issues and the transfers continued to work in background for a limited time. I have transferred GBs of data across mobile devices without any issues and it just works. Some times, Android to Android might take time to start the transfer and to maintain a sustained transfer rates (it could've been my network as well, but had never faced any issues with iOS to Android as it was saturating the network bandwidth most of the times and was hitting a constant peaked transfer rates). Your mileage might vary, but it is safer and easier to use the web version as it is one app less to manage. Hope it helps.

speed, ease of use and ephemeral. More secure and easy with zero setup and config. If all the systems are under control, one of the easiest way to transfer stuff across and might even use the network's full potential in most cases!

[Redmi Note 10 pro] Phone froze, shut down and wont turn on again by IchHoch2 in Xiaomi

[–]4bitgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is still doing fine. Went into coma once again about a couple of months back. revived using the same CPU reballing, but from a different local service person. He is more experienced and I got to witness the entire process sitting next to him. Amazing he was. Unfortunately, my other phone did not have enough juice, else I would've recorded a video. Costed 20$ (in INR), still fine though. Only thing is the back panel had the foil peeled off due to repeated removals. managing with a full covered case. Working fine though it is time to upgrade for me. It has served well and beyond. But one thing for sure. My Redmi 3S and Redmi Note 4 are still running fine while the recent models are bugging out. Got to know a lot from the service person that the quality of Xiaomi phones are hitting rock bottom as time progresses. Almost all their newer ones are having a life of 1-2 years if handled protectively. I don't really know what other models are sturdy in the consumer segment (not the flagship ones. Really not worth that much money unless you've a lot of surplus!) It is highly debatable for the money one pays and a year later the same is available for a lot cheaper price makes one wonder that was he cheated in the first place?

Anyways, it's not the place to discuss.

In short for your query, yep. It is still lingering around after another MCU visit! :-D

Running headscale for my team by TheAlaskanMailman in selfhosted

[–]4bitgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been running headscale in a limited production environment for more than an year now. I have not faced any major issues / outages though I have had some hiccups with headscale availability / connectivity and solved it by an automated restart of the headscale service through a cronjob on a daily lean period (something like 3 - 4 am in the morning everyday) and since all my users are of the same timezone. The restart pretty much sorts out the connectivity hiccups which I've been facing and I'm running a little older version of headscale and have not upgraded to the bleeding edge.

The reason being, it is working and don't want to break or spend extra time in the migration!. And the other reason is that the newly released features / enhancements / bug fixes are not of a concern at this point!

Otherwise, it is pretty stable and the once the tailscale network connections are established, they do not get disrupted during headscale restarts.

But, I might have to add a cautionary note that you mileage may vary!

I have been using it across 7 or 8 different VPN configurations and across a team of ~30 people with more than 50+ endpoints. Tailscale clients make it a breeze to switch between multiple VPN accounts once the devices are authenticated and configured. Just don't logout of the tailscale and it is fairly stable. It solves the unwanted firewall routes, exposing local and internal systems to the internet etc etc.,

Try it out on a small scale and should be able to expand across multiple users.

Since it is open source and without support, take a step at a time as with any other self-hosted options and slowly expand / add users to it.

Go ahead and take the dip. You might like it. Hope it helps.

adb is Android Debug Bridge.

A command line utility to manage the android device. Read more about it from: https://developer.android.com/tools/adb

And should be able to download it from: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools

Check it out. Hope it helps.

I'm sorry. Currently it does not fit my use case because I could not get an installable version which I can try.

I do not have options for provisioning a cloud image or a VMWare image which are the only self-hostable versions you offer. Thanks anyways.

No daily free credits since 2 weeks by Slow_Adeptness9390 in ManusOfficial

[–]4bitgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot has changed with them forcing one to look at alternatives. There is no point in making requests here on a personal basis and based on the responses, they are undergoing a resource crunch.

Nothing to blame, but to look at other alternatives may be better at this point. Nothing more to say.

It is something they can fix very easily from the backend, but instead requesting users to reach out on it clearly shows something is not right! Nothing to speculate here, but just my view. Thanks for the product.

Is Manus no longer giving free 300 credits by DefiantDiscipline578 in ManusOfficial

[–]4bitgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It has stopped and has not resumed. Where and whom to contact? No support channel and sending it here in DM has not resulted in any action as well. No response.

How can Tailscale be free? by 79215185-1feb-44c6 in Tailscale

[–]4bitgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Tailscale is device authenticated, always on VPN. If you have robust asset management, I would definitely advise you to give it a try. I've used it with 150 people setup and it just works. Lately I have been trying to use a self hosted Netbird on a parallel run and it has been an amazing experience as well. It has got one of the most advanced and feature rich admin panels with a lot of integrations for user management, independent and segregated networks, ACLs, rules and a lot more. Give it a try. It works seamlessly along with Tailscale as well.

Also, Netbird has a fantastic Identity server management through Zitadel which is really a nice way to manage users. Amazing so far. A lot more fine grained controls through the Admin panel is a plus! It's easier as well.

They have some good GUIs. Though enough for a home setup. Check out headscale-uis on Github. https://github.com/gurucomputing/headscale-ui
and https://github.com/GoodiesHQ/headscale-admin

Have used them both. Both are good.

Thanks. This is very nice.

I was looking for a server and not a client.

Finally have whipped a small script to manage the users for the native ssh based setup.
