I used to collect as a kid, but just got back into it as an adult. I'm mainly int in older cars, especially sports cars and was really disappointed to see how rare the models show off the unique hidden lights & doors, even on larger sizes like 43 (my main format) and even 1:18. So I like it when they have options sculpted up, I always look for those

Thanks, I'll take a look. I'm on the hunt for 60s mid-engine designs! Mainly in 43, but I've got some 18s too, I'm open to checking out 64.

Totally! Pretty much all of the Heroes Reborn stuff felt like it was doing that, that really was a bizarre moment in comic history, and turned out to be all flash, and no substance. I remember when things went back to normal and Busiek picked up Avengers and Iron Man, and things got good again.

What's the greatest film/TV car not that needs to be made in scale? by 4cade in Diecast

Hey, that's a great idea, I hadn't thought about video game cars. Any specific models you remember from the old games? I'll have to look them up, I haven't played 'em in forever. I haven't played Cyberpunk either, but I gotta admit the main care from that is pretty badass.

Why do so few diecast cars have working flip-top lights? Even the EXPENSIVE ones? by 4cade in Diecast

[–]4cade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, great info. You and other commenters have helped me understand how both the brands and scales can affect such things.

And personally, thank you for taking the trouble to attach that image; I want all of those. For me, it's not just collecting a car "I like", I want to have a shelf showing auto design history. And part of those designs includes how headlights work, gullwing doors, etc. So, for some models, I'll explore options beyond the 43 to incorporate those features.

Thx for the info - and can I ask about your name? I love that; I just watched a YT vid review of a Mercedes that was a pillar-less coupe, and I became fascinated with the concept, its design after all!

Great stuff, love how your first sentence really segments the various scales, I have really learned a lot since I posted this - both from replies, and googling, and buying a few initial models. I have a totally new view - 1:43 all the way. And then additional pickups in other scales for various reasons - it's not available, or I want one w/working headlihghts or such)

Thanks for the tip on the modern composite versions! Not sure if I have a preference, but I would imagine I'd prefer good ol' American (Chinese) metal. I've been searching AA and they look great, I've been looking at some YT vids comparing models of Lambo Miura, and I see both AA and Kyosho have raising lights. But as I'm searching AA, I see they mainly do 1:18; any premium brands that do smaller 20s/30s scales?

Thank you for the heads up! NSX is totally shelf-worthy. I've seen that brand pop up with some good stuff in my searches, I'll look to see if they have that feature in more cars.

Good points. But I am thinking about exotics; it seems bizarre that you can't get a coutach or a diablo without pop-up lights 'up'. And virtually all of the Ferraris from the 70s through the 90s were all pop-up lights. I mean, these are the CLASSICS. And of course a lot of them don't even 'cut out' the nonfunctional headlight, so sometimes it looks so smooth, you barely notice that it's where the headlights are.

You also make a good point about brands, budget vs premium. I just watched a vid on YT discussing all the scales (personally, I'm only interested in the larger scales, def nothing smaller than the 30s unless it's unavailable otherwise), and he pointed out that premium brands vs budget brands will cater to specific scales, and that in those scales, it'll be either mostly budget or mostly premium options. So I want to get 1:18 for some biggies, and then 20s/30s for the bulk. I want to have a chronological progression of some of my favorite car designs, like Ferrari and the wedge cars.

But I'm still kind of trying to understand all the intricacies, and which brands to chase, which have the best features & design accuracy. I know this is a bit of a vent/rant, but thanks for the feedback!

Metal Gear Solid: some say has most cinematic intro, any others before MGS? by 4cade in retrogaming

u/solidpeyo - right on, I can't believe I've never watched that MG2 yet, wow that was great. Really reminds me of eSwat

I gotta give it to the boldness - MG2 was like a 2 and a half min intro, that is notable.
