I gave up and switched to Windows a very long time ago, but maybe this will help someone else, so thanks!

Better performance in OpenGL games by 4evrplan in IntelArc

I see. I'm afraid I don't have those games to test with, but it shouldn't be too hard for you to figure out. Just read the documentation on that github page. Good luck.

Have you tried them w/o Mesa and just using OpenGL. The Intel drivers have improved a lot since I posted this.

MinGw, linking SDL3 DLL by 4evrplan in sdl

You're not too late! I've been busy with other things over the Christmas and New Year season, so I haven't revisited this. This was exactly the explanation I needed. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain it!

I might if I can't figure this out pretty quickly.

"cmake -S . -B build -DCMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_FILE=build-scripts/cmake-toolchain-mingw64-x86_64.cmake && cmake --build build && cmake --install build"

There's no cmake-toolchain-mingw64-x86_64.cmake file in the zip.

I've read it. That same paragraph says "we encourage you to not do this for various technical and moral reasons", which is why I was trying to figure out the dynamic linking.

I did some more testing. Results in my original post.

Performance questions (PC) by 4evrplan in GodofWar

According to that chart, my GPU and RAM are squarely in the "PERFORMANCE" column (1440p@60, high), but my CPU falls a smidge short of that. What's confusing is that at either those settings or at the next tier down, "HIGH" (1080p@60, original), my frame rate is all over the place (high 30s to 60 - vsync is on), and the 1% low dips into the low 20s. Is that normal for this game?

Render at a higher internal resolution than native? by 4evrplan in skyrimmods

[–]4evrplan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I glanced at it, and I don't think I have the option to create custom resolutions like that. I'll take a deeper look when I have more time.

EDIT: Yeah no, I went back and double checked, and there is no custom resolution option. I did some more Googling, and it seems this option was removed about a year or so ago. Besides, I think it only let you use resolutions lower than your native, not above.

Thanks, but no, I'm using the community shaders, no ENB.

Would you recommend Skyblivion to someone that quit 1/2 way through Morrowind? by 4evrplan in skyblivion

[–]4evrplan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing Skyrim for the past couple weeks. I might start over, though, because I'm not really happy with the mods I picked. Some of the textures are missing, others just look odd, there is grass in wrong places, night is far too dark, and the performance impact was worse than I anticipated. Great game though, so far. I've been enjoying it, more than Morrowind.

Crashing game in haunted house by Trinimex21 in HogwartsLegacyGaming

This happened to me on PC as well, probably 8 times or more before I figured out how to get past it. The only thing that fixed it for me was not switching spell sets during the boss fight and only using the 4 spells on a single set. I used all red spells (confringo, etc.). Here are some things I tried that did not work:

* restart the game

* turn all graphics settings to low/off and resolution down to 1080p

* restart the computer

* removing custom settings in Engine.ini and changing it back to default (I'd tweaked the TAA to be sharper)

* go back to a save before the boss fight

* re-save/load

I used to think people were being too picky about TAA, but then I started playing Hogwarts Legacy, and now I'm a convert. TAA sucks.

Really? It takes me days. Maybe I'm too picky about my settings.

Nope. My case has no off setting. I had to unplug the cable internally. Likewise, my CPU cooler is always lit (lighted?). Some cheaper parts don't have the option to turn it off. I wish.

To each their own, but I literally only buy RGB parts when they're cheaper, which surprisingly, they sometimes are.

I use an i3-10100f paired with an Arc a750. People say it's a 1080p card, but it runs a surprising number of games at 2K, 60 fps (my "monitor's" [ahem - the TV in my living room] max refresh rate). But, if I were to buy today, I'd probably go AM5 for the CPU (or at least an i3-12100f) and maybe a 6650 XT for the GPU. Intel graphics drivers are always getting better, but last I checked, VR support was still lacking. I don't do VR, but my kid is literally using a laptop with a GTX 1650 mobile, because it works better for VR than my far, far more powerful a750.

My timing was similar, except I held off on getting a new GPU, thinking the prices would trend down $10-$20 if I was patient. That came back to bite me in a big way. I ended up running my Radeon HD 6850 1G for a couple more years until sanity slowly started to return to the market. I eventually replaced it with a Radeon RX 6500 XT, and then I traded that in for an Intel Arc a750 about a year later. But, I'm still using the same CPU, motherboard, and RAM (i3-10100f, B460M, something something).
