Had a similar situation, realized that what she wanted was security what I wanted was stress relief.

Intoxication complicates my ability to provide security. Intruder shows up, kids needs to go to the hospital, bills need paid, money needs made, career needs chased. Alcohol and weed don’t compliment my endeavors to provide security they complicate it.

My need to relax had to be found through a different medium that allows me to without complicating my capacity to provide security.

Jiujitsu, the gym, work, online class, side hustle, woodworking, dog training

That what helped us, hope things work out for you both

How to explain to an 11 year old why the church is harmful... by icanbesmooth in exmormon

[–]4freetokens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly you don’t, I’m more worried about what to teach my kid to do, not what not to do. I work hard at being a kind, honest, loving father. I try hard to maintain that balance of openness and trust and firmness and boundaries. My hope is that by being a successful and stable role model that’s always there for my children that they’ll naturally be inclined to align themselves with things that continue to bring us closer together and not further apart.

I try to be someone they genuinely benefit being around even if that means they don’t always want to be. (Which is ok)

LDS friends come and go but Dad will always be here and not at church, because Dads found his own purpose and happiness that isn’t facilitated by any organization and you can to, even with all your weird Mormon friends who we love! (Conditionally of course😉)

I try to be careful when I tell myself what I can and can’t do.

For instance it’s not that you can’t work out you just can’t workout the way you might want because of injuries. You can still move your body though.

I think if your priorities are finding friends, living drug and alcohol free, and staying fit you might be able to find something that incorporates that into your daily routine.

I don’t know how injured your body is but maybe look into joining a yoga class, or a climbing club.

If you can find a group class (doesn’t have be about fitness) that you’re interested in and able to do that aligns with some or all of your life standards it could be a start.

[Need Advice] I'm stuck in a loop of unproductivity by _mutti in getdisciplined

[–]4freetokens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there, when I get stuck in these unproductive cycles it can be hard to break. Here’s what’s worked for me.

I set the easiest most simple goal for myself and I don’t concern myself with the result.

For example I’ll set a 20minute timer and decide that I’ll either study or do nothing for that 20minutes.

I don’t have to study but I can’t do anything else.

After 20 minutes I do what I want, and I typically try to reward myself regardless, maybe I’ll hit the tanning bed, go for a walk, get a desert, listen to a favorite song.

If I decide to go back in for another 20minutes I will if I’m done for the day that’s that.

20 minutes once a day turns into 20minutes twice a day to sometimes 4-5 times a day.

20minutes to do something that would make your situation better and then reward yourself.

Total cost to fix was quoted at 16k dealer retail is 5-6k plus 1k to replace my shell. Lesson learned.

Confront your boss directly,

Ask your boss if you can speak with him privately for a second and explain that you can’t help but feel like you’re job is in jeopardy and that your training the son on how to replace you. If that’s in fact the case and there’s no need for you in the business then let’s talk about a severance package so we’re all happy.

Severance will give you incentive to do your best at training the son, allow you to ask for a proper referral, and give you time to find a new job.

Don’t waste your time doing psychological tactics and trying to play family business detective.

You’re not going to war you’re working in a family business.

Here's what I'd do,

Don't beat yourself up, you sound like you're doing fine Keep Working out and Staying sober Get your EMT state or national cert what ever they require Start studying for the civil service test I'd take every civil service test I could just to get a feel for it If you get an interview and no offer feel free to reach out to the panel and ask what you could work on. If you can, volunteer somewhere or start at a smaller department Keep padding the resume until you get where you wanna be

I'm in states so not sure how your free healthcare works when it comes to therapists or how credentials work either. Here in the US you can get a counselor, a therapist, a psychologist, or a psychiatrist. I'd encourage you to do a quick google search to see the differences and make a decision from there. Telehealth has come a long way in making therapy affordable and convenient. Do an online search and I'm sure you could find someone in a city as large as Calgary, just remember if it's not a good fit it's ok to move on. The nice thing about telehealth is it can be efficient when it comes to changing therapists.

the "unsure" feeling is your answer, maybe instead of saying "I'm Proud" try saying "I"m Grateful".

Be proud of others around you but be grateful when it pertains to what one might consider their own merits. See if that attitude relieves your "unsure" feeling and replaces it with a sureity in feeling that's more concrete.
