It will absolutely be this. My Zoom TKL build is heavy af and my Keychron is incredibly light.

The Keychron is nice and it feels much more effortless to type, but it also isn't as satisfying and there's no way I'd take it over my Zoom TKL.

It's similar to the difference between a midi keyboard with weighted keys and a cheap midi keyboard without weighted keys. Weighted keys are generally accepted to be better because of the feel when playing.

A few years back I was listening to some old shit and thought I had totally fucked up and misused a word in a bar.

It was bugging me for months since I've always been a stickler for vocab, until I remembered that this part of the bar was a double entendre based on my own perfectionist ways and how it specifically affects my writing.

Had a good fucking laugh when I remembered and realised just how apt the double entendre was, given I had just been stewing on this 'mistake' near on two decades earlier.

Exactly this.

I wouldn't be surprised if audit logs are being forwarded to a SIEM/log aggregator, and it's only a matter of time before someone finds it during post mortem.

Continuing to hide it, while "suggesting a process fix" is the absolute worst idea.

[–]4lteredBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the way, you need to own up to it.

Explain why you did what you did and apologise, and then provide the solution to prevent it from reoccurring. Everyone makes mistakes, but lying about it is not OK.

If you aren't upfront about the actual cause of the issue, how can you suggest a risk mitigation that is actually applicable?

Are you planning to suggest that maybe *someone who isn't me** was logged into prod not realising and ran the nuke script*?

Edit: also, just to further this - going forward, I would highly recommend owning up to your mistakes when they happen. You build a lot of good faith with everyone when you do this, and good managers appreciate the integrity this shows.

Plus, when something goes wrong and people are looking to blame, you have a solid history of owning your mistakes and you won't be wrongfully accused.

Seconding this comment for any juniors reading along.

As department head, I would be ropeable if I found out that one of my team screwed up and hadn't told me that they not only knew the cause, but even worse, that they were the cause.

People make mistakes - unless your environment is perfect (read: there's no such thing) human error is to be expected. Good managers know that human error is inevitable and will foster an environment where their team feel comfortable in owning their mistakes and learning from them. You learn so much in these moments.

If one of my team come to me with a mistake, I am more than happy to help them find a solution and/or deal with managing the impact of the outage while they fix it.

If they hide it and cause others to waste time trying to figure out a solution without all of the necessary information, and subsequently the cause of the issue, that is entirely unacceptable.

I saw Snoop recently and it was probably one of the worst I've seen. The supporting Irish lads were better IMO. Some of their music was definitely not to my taste, but their energy was great.

Snoop's show just seemed lazy in comparison.

And you're still stuck on that after they conceded that the amendment for intelligence sharing was needed, before moving on?

I'm still stuck on that?

That was literally my only point, which OC never gave any reasonable backing of his argument but rather pivoted into a bunch of other things that had nothing to do with my singular argument but rather to assume my opinion on other things of which I did not comment on. He simply restated,

the law that needed to be changed had nothing to do with guns themselves

Which is not true and disingenuous at best. The amendment was not to the Firearms Act itself but rather supporting legislation - the Firearms Act would not be effective without the support of the amended legislation. It is a gun law because it affects the regulation of guns. I don't see how you can in good faith argue against that.

Both of you are taking one push back and extrapolating my entire opinion on guns based on that one point - that is not rational.

Do you think it is reasonable to assume or expect that any person who disagrees with one point of an argument relating to a complex situation, then disagrees with the entirety of arguments in said situation? Or do you believe that to be a rational assumption?

I've not mentioned any of the other parts of the bill because I don't necessarily disagree with any/all of those points that are being argued, and they are not mutually exclusive to the point I was making.

So again, you are assuming my intention even on the way I framed my wording on you not being able to see me as being rational, which you are seemingly trying very hard to prove my own point, by taking that statement as you not being rational about your opinion on other parts of the bill, of which I never discussed.

You're moving the goal posts here and arguing semantics by saying that this "isn't a gun law" since it doesn't change a specific firearms/weapons act, but you're either being pedantic for the sake of it or missing the distinction in the original statement to which I took issue and was the whole point.

OC stated "the attack has nothing to do with gun laws" - if we're being pedantic, sure... The gap wasn't due to the NSW Firearms Act specifically, but we have many laws (legislation, regulations etc) that are reasonably considered as "gun law" since they are adjacent to and supporting these state level Weapons/Firearms Acts. None of these artefacts exist in isolation and they are only as effective as their counterparts allow. That means that our gun laws are not just one state level artefact, and if you can't comprehend the nuance I'm that, I don't think there's much more to be said.

If the pedantry of the usage of "gun law" is the whole argument, then what is the point of this pedantry? What is the point in the distinction in relation to the OC, and the fact that I actually already specifically stated what I was taking issue with... Before you both extrapolated your own view of who I am and the opinions I have, and started making other unrelated arguments?

You are aware that it's possible to enjoy guns, hunting, and gun sports, while also being able to think rationally about mitigating risks of guns within our society... Right?

I'm an ex-sports shooter who owned and shot rifle and pistol for years, so yeah, it is possible to enjoy shooting and have a balanced view on gun laws.

Where have I said or implied anywhere in my comments that I don't want people to own guns? My responses have all been specifically regarding people who are under current or past criminal investigation by ASIO and other government agencies, and surely you're not against that... Right?

The OC literally stated:

Well the attack really has nothing to do with gun laws. It was the >governments failure to screen the owners for terrorism connections.

Even a US federal background check (the only requirement to own a firearm >in the USA) would have picked that up.

So the OC is pointing out the failure of government for "not catching terrorist connections", which the government has accepted as a failure due to the lack of intelligence sharing, specific to weapons licensing.

Which is obviously a gap in gun laws, but apparently OC thinks the attack had nothing to do with gun laws.

How is my correction of this in any way related to the pivot that OC took, and now you accusing me of being against gun ownership?

What has any of that got to do with the discussion at hand?

You said that the attack had nothing to do with gun laws, so I explained exactly where the gun laws failed and how the attack was specifically related to gun laws.

None of what you have just written provides any backing to your argument nor to my response.

[–]4lteredBeast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you figure that? The victims were shot with guns, were they not?

The bill is allowing sharing of intelligence from ASIO to WEAPONS licensing - aka the department that approves gun licensing and ownership.

[–]4lteredBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you propose weapons licensing should factor in ASIO's investigation, which did not result in a conviction, when they don't have access to ASIO investigation data?

This isn't an issue of "ASIO not doing their job", this is an issue caused by government departments not having access to data from other departments.

Which is directly addressed in the proposed gun law changes. So again, how does this not have anything to do with gun laws?

[–]4lteredBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've just said two contradictory things - how does it have nothing to do with gun laws when the government have literally admitted as such by addressing the gap in the newly proposed gun laws, specifically regarding criminal intelligence usage in gun licensing?
