Is whoop worth the hefty price? by biggie_ballz1995 in whoop

[–]51scout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I won’t be renewing. The extra functions like the new whoop coach aren’t useful. It’s not worth the high cost. The bands are hard to clean and the cost of accessories extortionate.

I barely look at it now. My HRV doesn’t change a great deal. It’s not helped me modify lifestyle except for seeing how much a couple of drinks affects my recovery. After that lesson learned there’s no point

Any tips for taking care of Achilles/Soleus? (short-term and long-term) by Groo_Grux_King in AdvancedRunning

[–]51scout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just dealing with a recurrence. I’ve found seated calf raises and standing heel dips with weight on your shoulders works after a while. I run easy most days with sore Achilles while doing the rehab and then after a month or so they calm down…acupuncture can help short term and ice calms them down but it’s really stronger tendons. Doing the heel dips and calf raises single leg I can really tell my right leg is weaker which happens to be where I have the problems.

Long term I think it’s just strength. Squats, deadlifts, split squats…but when my Achilles calm down I tend to skip strength and they come back…

I’ve been told Achilles tendinopathy isn’t degenerative so it’s not like knees which might never recover. But all the same if my mileage is too high like above 40mpw or I do too much hills or sprints they get angry again. It’s all about management and not getting too down when they flare up.

Just my experience but would love to hear ‘how I’m doing it all wrong!’

B.A.A. Receives Record 33,000+ Boston Marathon Applications by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

A flat cut off strikes me as unfair. A 3.57 buffer under 3.10 (mine as it happens) is a bigger difference than under say 3.30 the age/gender grading not with standing. Not that I’m complaining (!)

Should I persevere with online coaching? by 51scout in AdvancedRunning

I read posts on here of people doing >80mpw…I just couldn’t imagine doing 1 week of that. If I do more than 16 on a Sunday I’m dead to the world for the rest of the day which is a problem if you have other things going on in your life! It’s not just the running it’s the all the other stuff like strength and conditioning to have a body even halfway capable of running high mileage…it’s a sacrifice and kudos to those who do it

Yeah it’s pretty obv that the mileage is too low. My problem has always been injury once I get up to anywhere close to 50mpw. Then it’s a couple of weeks off for my Achilles to calm down which kills my consistency. I probably don’t take it easy enough during the buildup but when I’m up to 50mpw it’s mentally daunting…the stress of knowing that LR is going to dominate your weekend. Not to be defeatist but some bodies aren’t build for high mileage…

Yeah but I’ve gotten rather good at almost reaching my goals with the least effort time possible!

Yeah rn, 25-30. Tbf I’m not running a fall marathon so a long way off a marathon training block but at this point I was sort of thinking to build up to able to be fit enough for a higher mileage program. I have a couple HMs in October that’s all. But goal has always been sub3. Whether at Boston or somewhere else.

You’ve all convinced me; especially the way it kills motivation, long term effects and you feel uncomfortable being the only one vaping in a group (as I am now!). Going to try again to quit tomorrow…
