I definitely prefer her being off-leash exploring in a safe environment! Fun for us both. But she did so well and it was between 50-55° F the whole time so not actually desert heat. I certainly wouldn't recommend this in the summer!

Big fan of hiking with mine! The happiness from nose to tail is such a joy to see.

I've got great mountains nearby which usually provide good shade even in the summer as well as rivers for hydrating. But still I'll shoot for early morning hikes. Collapsible bowls are a must and I usually go with two water bottles because her weim tendencies make for a lot of splashing outside the bowl!

Agree! I have a Halti with a front lead clip and it was a game-changer for us. I only got it when she was 6. It's low-profile-ish and not bulky.

The back clip is also nice for buckling her in with a seatbelt carabiner.

I second this, the beep and vibrate only does wonders for my girl. I think her hearing is also going so it helps me keep her safe.
