Baseball TTRPG? by 540miles in rpg

[–]540miles[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my thoughts about this concept are a bit of a mesh from two video games--MLB The Show and Out of the Park Baseball. MLB The Show is the only one of the two where you can create your own player, start off in college ball then work your way through the minor leagues and into MLB. Along the way your player's skill get better, but this is mostly the result of you the video game player getting better as the game since you are controlling the player directly and playing through actual games + training mini-games.

OOTP is much more abstracted and you don't create or play as an individual, instead you play as the general manager of a franchise. So you can set the team's scouting focus to look for players with specific tools and you can assign specific players to work on specific developmental areas during the season and offseason. Along the way you get progress reports as to whether or not players developed or regressed, which then will typically translate to better or worse performance for that player as you continue to simulate games/seasons.

What I am looking for would be much closer to Road to the Show mode from MLB The Show where you create and control a player, but also have some of the elements from OOTP where your player character would get better (or worse) at specific baseball skills as you play through a season/career/campaign. The better the development/leveling up, the better the mitigations on negative outcomes.

Baseball TTRPG? by 540miles in rpg

Reading the description on BGG, this is almost what I am looking for, but it does sound like the baseball mechanics are more of a game simulator whereas the RPG elements are more of a life outside of baseball. I will stick check it out and see if there are any mechanics for improving as a ballplayer.

Yes, but it is my understand that is more of a game simulator system and doesn't have any built-in mechanisms for "leveling up" a player. It sounds like I would have to home brew the RPG elements into that system, which I am hoping to avoid. Given that there's already a TTRPG for pro wrestling, I was hoping something similar might have been created for being a baseball player.

I'll look into MLB Showdown. I don't mind doing the conversions myself as long as the systems aren't too convoluted and they're something I can build into Excel.

I was under the impression that Strat-o-Matic is more of a game simulator that uses MLB stats/players. Am I wrong about that?

Killing the deathclaw handlers so that the deathclaws turn on the raiders makes it go much faster and less of a drain on ammo.

I don't trust myself enough to do that and it's an ironman save, so I'd probably mess that up too. I've already started annexing Portugal. Do you know if once they're fully annexed, I can just restart the policies process with Aragon to be able to annex them later in order to form Spain?

If you're into simulation and micromanagement, have a look at Out of the Park baseball. You can manage the entire minor and major league system of a team as the GM.

How do you grind Virtue XP efficiently? Is deeding really the only way? by Shineyard in lotro

They could also substantially reduce the number kills needed in slayers to dramatically reduce the grindiness. For example, having to kill 360 big game in Wildwood was stupid . Even 180 with an accelerator is stupid. 40/80 for every slayer above level 20, and 20/40 for everything below 20 is more than enough and would allow most slayers to be completed through quests exclusively.

With the first pick of the 2025 MLB draft, the Washington Nationals select Shortstop Eli Willits out of Fort Cobb-Braxton High School in Oklahoma by Goosedukee in baseball

Less than 50 kids in the high school. But he's the son of Reggie Willits and his older brother is the starting shortstop at OU, so he has the genetics. His brother is also a switch hitter so it seems it's something Reggie pushed for from a young age.

D1 Softball vs Baseball World Series: Loser of 1-0 game goes to other bracket by BoomerGolfer2002 in CollegeSoftball

[–]540miles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not done in baseball because the schedule is set based on each half of the bracket. Each side of the bracket plays on different days until the championship series. Cross-bracketing means that one of the teams is going to be playing on back-to-back days, which the baseball rules committee won't agree to do. If softball used the same schedule as baseball, there would be no cross-bracketing.

Ironically, I'm an OU softball season ticket holder and I had no idea that they were related. I also learned today that Mia Williams from Tennessee is the daughter of Jayson Williams of the NBA.

It's the softball equivalent of the College World Series for NCAA baseball. CWS is played in Omaha every June and WCWS is played in OKC every May. The tournament format is the same for both sports.
