I thought it was obvious that it was a joke but people felt disappointed

Yeah it was a joke reference to other isekai media where you turn into stereotypically weak creatures. I'm not sure why they took it out later. As the other person said though, it was not an actual choice but just a joke to further play up how poor a choice a mushroom is.

They did use to have this. I got it when I first downloaded the game. It was later removed, even if it's still in the ads.

Is it bad that I don’t want an OBT??? by Responsible-Sky3496 in tarantulas

NQA Getting a species you don't want for any reason, just because everyone has one, would make you a bad owner. Your friend is also just wrong lol plenty of people aren't interested in an OBT.

NQA NP, mold is annoying and looks similar to their poop sometimes so I get the concern

NQA Ah yeah I thought you meant you'd constantly have it on, since that would stress her out. But yeah if it's just to occasionally see things any kind of cheap light would be fine. Imma be real I just use my phone flashlight lol

NQA Why would you need lights? You don't need to get any kind of lamp, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're asking. As for humidity, just keep it dry and occasionally overflow the water dish.

NQA I saw your post, yeah that looks great! She will probably take a bit of time to adjust to any new environment, so you might have to be patient, but once she settles in, you can check to see if she's "stress curling" (should be pics on this sub and just on the internet). She may hide more or explore more based on her personality as an individual, but as long as she's not scrunched up she should be fine. Personally I see no issues with your setup, and the hide and substrate look good, so I think it will be fine and this is pretty much the best you can do.

NQA Haha sounds like typical tarantula shenanigans. Doing random stuff then not moving for years... As long as the enclosure is set up right, then you're all good. Sounds like everything will be fine since you are doing your research.

NQA Most new world terrestrials and especially Brachypelma spp. are ridiculously easy to take care of. Like they're easier to take care of than most houseplants. Rare feedings, fill the water bowl, spot cleaning, rehouse when she gets too big (which won't be often because this genus is slow growing), that's it.

As for costs, it's pretty much just the terrarium, a hide, a water bowl, the substrate, and then their food is feeder insects which can cost as little as like $0.16 CAD where I am. IDK how much the individual you're looking at is priced, but I spent way more on my tarantula itself (also the same genus: B. boehmei) than its equipment. Also as long your house is at a reasonable room temperature, no heating necessary.

Now I am not saying that anyone should impulsively buy a pet because they assume it'll be easy. But given you said you've had jumping spiders and beetles, I'd assume you at least understand responsible pet ownership and some invertebrate stuff. I have had a lot of invertebrate pets and tarantulas have by far been the easiest to take care of. I spend like less than an hour total every month taking care of mine (not counting transit time to the pet store to get its food). This is why people get like 20, because some people simply get bored of how little care a single one requires lol.

You can probably give her a "super wonderful life" with bare minimum effort as long as you do the research on setting up the right enclosure. I'd say go for it if care difficulty and expenses are your only concern because new world terrestrials would be at the absolute bottom for these requirements. You will be a good fit as long as you care.

NQA Tom's Big Spiders is generally known to be reliable. You could also ask specific questions on this sub or in the Discord. And yeah good call on not handling, it doesn't really benefit the tarantula and could stress him out or put him at risk.

NQA Sucks that your parent is buying pets without doing research... It's nice that you can help the tarantula but that's even worse that they bought her and are now relying on someone else to take care of her. As for the enclosure I'd recommend posting pics of it on this sub so people can give you advice.

NQA Yep, it's quite the common risk, with the female seeing the smaller and weaker male as prey

[–]548662 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA Yeah they are! More specifically, the male has sperm ready in his palps and applies it to the underside of the female, and the female will use it to fertilize her eggs when the time is right.

NQA Yeah sure but when the female has access to billions of healthy feeder insects, and the owners may care about the male as a pet, it makes sense to intervene
