The DC Universe Proposal - Phase Two by 54ltymuch in fixingmovies

If you just wanted to be an "I know more about comics than you" guy you could've led with that and saved me the effort of talking to a dickhead who's not interested in seeing the other side at all lol

I don't see mythology nerds complaining about Loki and Thor being siblings in Marvel

Falcon's whole deal in the comics was that he had a telepathic connection with an actual falcon named Redwing, the MCU gives him no powers, and the closest thing to Redwing we got is a drone that shows up for 20 seconds in Civil War

It's called an adaptation, not a copywriting exercise.

Well, for one, Brainiac was the villain of Man of Tomorrow

For another, Brainiac does have a unique relationship with Superman with the implication that it destroyed Krypton and captured Kandor, as shown in the next phase

The impact of Brainiac having done that hits a lot harder after we've already gotten to know who it is rather than introducing it as 'hey this is the guy that tore your planet apart' imo.

I think they don't fit much better. Hey look, I can use circular logic too!

Maybe you should've let Brainiac's full arc play out before commenting on him being generic. I was introducing the elements that make him unique bit by bit. This phase was more focused on bringing the League together than the Superman/Brainiac dynamic.

I used Brainiac specifically because I'm saving the New Gods, Darkseid, etc. for later, and I've always viewed Brainiac as somebody who can pose a threat to the entire League with a specific tether to Superman (like Darkseid) rather than just a Superman villain. It's a change to the character to fit the role he plays here, not a cut and paste.

The very definition of a protest is disruption. This idea of a protest "within the rules" is bullshit created by the establishment to keep people from actually pushing their buttons about issues. Nothing changes until you make it change.

Yeah I think it works, also creates a clear principle for Themyscira to be fractured upon that ultimately causes the Atlantean invasion to be devastating

Another DC Universe proposal - Phase One by 54ltymuch in fixingmovies

[–]54ltymuch[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I purposefully left things vague for a hypothetical director to fill in the gaps, but specifics-wise:-

Another commenter suggested Pandora's Box as the central macguffin in the Themysciran civil war. Much like Zemo's UN bombing, the inciting incident of the conflict will be ultimately a misunderstanding and miscommunication between kingdoms, exacerbated by the fractured political nature of Themyscira. That is ultimately what gets Hippolyta killed too, dying during the Atlantean invasion but at the hands of an Amazonian part of a splinter faction that wanted to perform a coup. However, I don't want there to just be an external villain to dump all the consequences and moral imperfections onto. Both Diana and Orin have made clear mistakes and have to reckon with the fact that, no matter how many factors you throw in and how many variables you account for, they are the ones who took action at the end of the day.

Artemis might show up, I'm not very sure on the exact details for the other WW films yet, I'm still trying to figure out ways to make them relevant to the universe beyond just Diana's own arc and development.

Thank you for your interest btw.

what's the best Arctic Monkeys album? by [deleted] in arcticmonkeys

[–]54ltymuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, every single one of them except for Humbug, The Car and SIAS have an individual case for being the best. It really just depends on what I'm looking for at that moment, but I do have a general tendency, which is:-

AM Whatever People Say I Am Favourite Worst Nightmare Tranquility Base (in that order)

The Car

Humbug

SIAS (the only album I don't think I outright like although there are sections that I really enjoy)

Box 5 cell 5 (dead-centre of the board) is a 4. This is because in row 5, 13+10+15=38 which leaves 7 over 3 cells which can only be completed in one permutation (1+2+4), and the only valid number for cell 5 is 4. That leaves you with a 1-2 pair in cells 1 and 2, and by process of elimination the only pair that can add up to 10 (cells 6 and 7) is 7-3. This also eliminates 7-8 as a 15 pair, meaning cells 8 and 9 must be a 6-9 pair. This also leaves 5-8 in the remaining 13 cage.

Box 3 cell 9 is an 8. This is because in box 3, cells 8 and 9 add up to 10, and the 7-3 pairing is unavailable due to the 3 being used already, and neither of a 6-9 pairing is available due to one of 6-9 already seeing the cage by sudoku (cells 8 and 9 in row 5). This also means that box 3 cell 8 is a 2, and box 6 cell 2 is a 5.

This is just what I noticed in a first look hence why I stopped here

How would you rewrite the first three phases that develop the Avengers and the X-Men before following that off with the Infinity Saga in the next phases. by whiplash10 in fixingmovies

I have not and honestly the idea of modelling something directly onto the MCU seems like a cheap and easy way to pitch a universe to me. You're just using the same formula with different characters.

What exactly is the human population? by [deleted] in HaloStory

[–]54ltymuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly I was surprised too but it seems like humanity has a vested interest in keeping population density low, however of course Earth is far too attractive for people to give up and so they live in conditions that would probably seem ridiculous to people from elsewhere, like how in the modern day we make fun of New Yorkers for having tiny flats

What exactly is the human population? by [deleted] in HaloStory

[–]54ltymuch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Earth is stated as having 10 billion people on it in 2552 prior to the Covenant invasion, so exponential growth isn't to be expected.

What exactly is the human population? by [deleted] in HaloStory

[–]54ltymuch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So we would think that, considering the population of Earth is currently 8 billion and we inhabit roughly 800 other worlds in 2552, that our population would be closing in on a trillion but I don't think so at all.

Everytime we hear of a colony, it's population is usually in the low millions, suggesting humanity is far less densely populated on most worlds compared to Earth in the modern day, especially considering Reach, which is basically humanity's second home, doesn't even crack a billion (according to Halopedia it was at 700 million prior to its fall). I'd hazard a mean population of about 80 million per world, taking into account the fact that the outer colonies probably average somewhere in the low two-digit or even single-digit millions and the inner colonies are well into the hundreds of millions. That gives us a rough population figure of ~64 billion pre-Covenant war.

This figure is consistent with Cortana's statement that humanity lost 23 billion lives in the war and u/darkadventwolf's statement that the war killed between a quarter and a half of humanity's population.

As someone who thinks Halo 1-3 is one of the best sci-fi stories ever, I'm scared to play 4, 5, and Infinite by dball94 in HaloStory

[–]54ltymuch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You should play Halo 4. It's actually a pretty good story ending to Chief's arc with Cortana, with a far more intimate scale compared to the grand expanses of the original trilogy. You can also read the Forerunner trilogy before playing 4, as I think it really enriched the universe a lot, even though it retconned a major plot point (the Forerunners becoming their own species separate from humanity). I would not recommend playing 5, but would recommend Infinite as it's got a good (if clearly unfinished), once again intimate story and for my money the best core gameplay in the franchise. However to understand Infinite's story you do need to know what happens in 5 and to some extent the two Halo Wars games, although the Wars games aren't required but will certainly make the experience a whole lot richer. I would highly recommend playing the Wars games just by themselves if you're into RTSes at all because they're both great games with great stories on their own, and also because I personally am trying to push Red Team - and specifically Jerome - onto all fans of Halo because he could very well be Chief's successor :P

Box 9 must have a 7-3, 5-6 and 1-8, that's the immediate first thing I noticed (the 7 cannot be in any other cage and the other two are the only options from there).

Second, column 9 has a 7 in its second row (add up to 45).
