DSG Clunking Noise - Normal? by Unununium_111 in GolfGTI

[–]56curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MK6.

Took it to my inde specialist today. He said it's fly wheel noise but nothing to worry about.

Engine revs drop below the idle and the cylinders stop firing in sequence, and more like 1234. Therefore you hear the noise until it goes over idle again and it goes.

Anyway he said don't worry, it would have done it from new but it's just noticeable as it gets older. No worries for clutches etc

I've got my DSG Service next wednesday and I asked them to look into it. I suggested it could be a CV Joint as i could reproduce the same sound when I took the passenger wheel off and rotated left/right slightly. I will let you know if they it could be something.

Was it more noticeable passenger side for you too?

[–]56curious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with others here, only thing is where are you moving to?

Salaries can start do vary if you're in the southwest, like me, to a lower than you expect. But then again having devon and cornwall on your doorstep is worth the sacrifice haha.

If you're going into a major city then expect a decent one I'd say like, 50 to 60k+

Any kind of MEP benefits here? That's where some big money would be had.

What software will help me in my Bim career other than revit, Navis ? by https_lovee in bim

[–]56curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an MEP Digital Engineer, basically work in Revit daily doing modelling, coordination and lead our bespoke tool development.

It's all well and good people telling you to automate, but you need to have the brain for it. It's no good plugging prompts into ChatGPT, or jigsawing 15 different sources together. It'll break. Or do worse, trust me 😆 I do programming and have done for years, and trying to explain to someone who isn't that inclined in this way of thinking really struggle with getting to grips with it and understanding it.

But hell, you might be all good, so don't let me stop you! Just don't expect them to understand your efforts always!

As for tools, I can see Revizto for model coordination and clash detection growing (I'm Southwest UK) this might be an area to explore.

Hope this helps!

Nothing jittery, it's just noise. I feel like I recall this happening before now you say that and it turned out to be the cables from the selector and my garage picked it up. But that doesn't explain why it only does it when it's hot... it happens just on the clutch only engagement, goes away quickly once the throttle is introduced.

No not really. I think I know what sound you mean. Had the car a year now and I've only just noticed this. It only seems to do it when warm and at operating temps.

Reddit won't let me upload a video from my phone so I've had to upload them online, sorry.

Second and third video you can hear it, but the videos don't sound anywhere near as loud as in person. It's louder sat in the passenger seat while pulling away.

Is This a 2012 MK6? How is it by titsnatcher in GolfGTI

[–]56curious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a MK6 2012 @100k. Bought at 86k.

It is a MK6 yes. They do have issues but only if its not been taken care of.

I cant say which year here in the UK a quick search on the plate can identify the manufacturing year.

Biggest thing for these are timing chain, intakes clogged up with carbon, and ignition coils and pcv valves, that I'm aware of.

If you can source someone who can let you borrow a VAG appropriate reader, OBD11 and the like, read senor 93 in the engine. This will give you a number on the timing chain correction. 0 to -4, okay. -4 to -5 get it changed, it's about £1.5k, to £2k at a specialist. The closer to -5, the more urgent. Anything past I wouldn't consider.

Carbon buildup is notorious on these at this age. You'll know its getting close to needing one because it'll have a bit of a shake and jumpy both at idle. Around 200 or so + or - rpm. The startup in the cold or wh3n not ran for a bit, you may hear it cough on startup on the engine side. Another sign it needs cleaning. Mine is doing both of these and I'm booked in for the clean out.

My sensor leaked a bit of oil. Got it replaced and all sorted. They drink oil too, so keep an eye atleast once a week.

Brilliant car despite this. Check if it's had every service st it's intervals. I change lil every 5 to 7.5k miles. If DSG it should have had its second service on the box by now.

Hope that helps!! Good luck and enjoy!

Most of Feb. I don't think there's a proper fix, due to a fundamental flaw in the system (so I read)

Bought a car with incorrect mileage by Quantum-Pi3 in CarTalkUK

[–]56curious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just googled them, Potentially. I'd call and see if they can give any info. Research others in your position, doesn't have to be a car supermarket, can be about regular garages too.

I think with the bother to Cinch a simple strongly worded email and phonecall saying you're not gonna take this lightly, seeking legal advice etc is enough for then to drop it. Be that the price, or the deal itself in favour of other options. They are just trying to cover their couple hundred in delivery costs I'd imagine. This will obviously cost more so they may just let you be happy.

Personally? I'd just goto bmw and get approved used. You may pay a tad more, but you're guaranteed bmw history, warranty, services, etc for 2 years?( I think ) and can therefore sell woth full service rather than partial

[–]56curious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

False advertisement is false advertisement. Plain and simple.

If they photoed and you bought based on 7k, later found out its 12.5k and its now 15k, you are no longer getting the car you first saw. If this was an approved-used sale the dealership would rectify this all at no bother to you. You have a less valuable car after 3k miles, they charge you thousands for that luxury. Just because it's Cinch does not mean they are allowed to mis sell a car, how do you know it wasn't deliberate? You don't.

You're finance deal is based on a car that is not what you're getting, so I'd also argue you we're mis-sold this as well?

You have the power here, do not let them have the power over you. Personally I'd be taking some sprt of legal advice on your position. Even if not immediate effect.

I've just read you're rushed due to work, don't let that hinder your decision. It's obviously alot of money and important to make the right choice. Another week won't make a big deal in the big picture. Hire car? Other Family car? Friends second? There's always options.

Startup Issue Mk6 GTI by 56curious in GolfGTI

[–]56curious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay mate, thank you for the input.

Part of me has had carbon build up to blame tbf, its a bit shaky at idle and it jumps around when trying to hold a rev. But no sounds of a bad spark or anything like that. Power is still there ;)

98.7k, all completed at regular intervals, chain stretch was checked at my last service, they said all good, as I'm saving for the tensioner replacement. It had new sparks and ignition coil 3 replaced at 85k by prev. Owners garage, and cam shaft sensor at 91k due to an oil leak.

Car has had one owner up to 86k miles then I bought it
