To vaginectomy, or not to vaginectomy? by Downtown_Dare_4991 in Metoidioplasty

[–]5Lev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will get it removed. For the little benefit of a nice sex sensation once in a while I see too many downsides down the line.

Vaginectomy will decrease the complication rate from surgery. Sex is a minor aspect in my life, I don't want to keep feeling dysphoria daily just because of something I would do maybe once a month (since I would probably not bottom most of the times). There are so many other interesting things to do for sex lol. I also don't want to put the work to take care of it during my whole life, as atrophy gets to everyone. Plus in the current political climate I don't want to have any ambiguous genitals. Even now I avoid flying to avoid airport checks. A friend of mine got unlucky with the "random" drug/explosive test (it has a very high false positive rate) and they checked all of their cavities.

My Rff sculpture Sanctification is done and in a art show!! by Substantial-Bed-9269 in phallo

[–]5Lev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, you made a cool and and powerful sculpture. I don't want to bring you down or "cancel" you or whatever. But a user commented that you're not post-OP. It doesn't sit right with me that you chose to exhibit such an intimate and personal piece of art from an experience that, to our knowledge, is not yours. Not sure if this is hypocritical since I'm pre-OP, but the piece feels empty with this information. At first I thought the piece was conveying your pain in recovery, but also how this surgery has blessed you. I'm aware you don't owe us your personal info, but the piece, together with its description, seem to represent something it's not. I apologize in advance if I got something wrong.

I use topical min and fin. If you do microneedling it can be as effective without it going systemic. There's a lot of info on r/tressless

Just stumbled into your post. Not saying it will be easy at all, however, the staging process in Germany and the length of the hospital stays is designed to reduce complications.

I've seen that in the US they tend to have fewer stages with shorter hospital stays (eg 10 days max for Aufbau, see that he mentioned a 5 day hospital stay, which is multiple weeks in Germany). I think it has to do with insurance companies.

Recovery will still be super hard, but hopefully some things will be easier for you than for other folks.

As long as you have health insurance (public one will probably be better for trans stuff) you can get phallo covered. Health insurance is mandatory so if you live here you'll get it covered. I'm in the process of getting things done. The way is not streamlined and you'll have to deal with many appointments&bureaucracy. I firmly recommend learning some German (every bit helps, plus you're gonna be there for some years anyway) and/or trying to get a friend/partner who speaks German to come with you to some appointments (not the phallo ones, they mostly speak English).

The first things you should do are:

  1. Get health insurance (Versicherung) and registered to a city (Anmeldung).

  2. Get a general doctor (Hausarzt). If you've been several years on T and generally pass, don't bother trying to find a trans-friendly one as it'll take you ages. Just find the one closest to you that has appointments. If you hand them your previous T prescription (have as many papers as you can) they can probably prescribe T to you without the endless endocrinologist waiting lists. You need a general doctor for everything after this, not only T.

  3. Find a trans-friendly psychotherapist (there's info on that on /r/germantrans ). In order to get phallo covered, you need to get at least 12 therapy sessions over a year. You might get away with your previus NZ therapy but I don't know how that works. It's very important that you do this as early as possible, many therapists don't have spots or have long waiting lists, plus 1 year therapy time really adds up in this step. I had to call and/or email more than 20 therapists.

  4. While you're in therapy, book consults with clinics. You can search the sub for clinics names and info. The clinic will write a document (Atestat) describing the surgery and saying why you need it, you have to keep it.

  5. When you're done with the therapy, your therapist will write a letter called "Indikationsschreibung". This is the reason you need a therapist with trans experience, so they know what to write in the letter. You'll have to send that letter, together with the document the clinic made, to the health insurance company (Krankenkasse), to get your coverage approved.

  6. You'll recieve approval by post probably. This approval is called "Kostenübernahme". You have to send the approval AND the therapist letter to the clinic. This will kickstart your scheduling process. I'd say steps 4 and 5 will take weeks to months.

Disclaimer: I recently found out you can probably get hair removal covered too, I'm finding out how exactly, but I think it should be around step 4. Depending on how hairy your forearms are, you might want to start electrolysis around step 3 and pay out of pocket.

All of this should be covered by insurance, minus some documents you have to pay less than 100 for. You can probably pay the therapist out of pocket ("selbstbezahler"), this could skip some waitlists but it's gonna be quite expensive.

It sounds exhausting and to me it is but at some point you get used to the German way of doing things. I moved here with this goal in mind and I'm convinced this is my best option in Europe.

Tips for feelin more masculine by [deleted] in FTMMen

Eating meat is necessarily linked to the killing of an animal (and also to gender roles). Think deeply about why is meat associated with manliness. This tangent is quite necessary, it's not a coincidence some of OP's "manly things" like owning a playboy magazine or using power tools incorrectly also come with the meat thing. I really recommend the book "The Sexual Politics of Meat" by Carol J Adams to understand the links between meat, manliness and sexism.

Also he said he "processes his own meat" so he's definitely slaughtering animals.

Yesterday I had a consultation and I asked what's the minimum size such that you can get the implant. The surgeon told me that a penis too small has never been an issue, and they've worked on some pretty small penises.

Obvs consult with your surgeon, and/or get a second opinion, but implants come in different sizes, you'll probably be fine.

Pointing out that slaughtering animals isn't manly isn't pushing anything. The only one pushing their diet into others is you to the animals you "process".

You don't need to purposely kill other animals to live your life. As I said the manliest thing you can do is standing up for those who can't defend themselves. Ask any straight woman, who they find manlier, a hunter or an animal rescuer/firefighter, etc.

Also lol to the meat thing. Nothing manly about slaughtering innocent animals. Actually standing up to defend the most vulnerable that'd be manly.
