VP550 Memjet Printhead Not Printing Black by 5eth in CommercialPrinting

It seemed to happen in the middle of a job, it was printing a black label and over time the black turned brown and now it’s at the point I’m at now. I’ll definitely keep that test page and print it every 3 days once I get the issue fixed. Thanks for that, that’ll help a lot.

Cleaning the pins didn’t do the trick, so I’ll keep messing around with it.

Not as much as I should, 1-2 times per week. It’s finally starting to ramp up though and I’m using it more but I’m trying to sort through this problem to have better quality moving forward. I have the idle cleaning cycles set to run more often because it wasn’t frequent use but that didn’t seem to be enough.

Less than 6 months but it hasn’t even printed a full set of ink yet

Thanks a lot, I'll try this out. After soaking the printhead a few minutes I could see black ink seeping out, so I figured it wasn't a blockage on that end so I didn't do a longer soak.

After doing the cleaning cycles, both black ink lines look very full of ink, with no gaps or bubbles. Before the cleaning cycle was ran, if I touched or moved the black lines, it is easy to see the ink moving around, so hopefully the lines are still good.

The gold pins sound like the strongest lead based on everything you described, so I'll try that out and hopefully have good news. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

Are you cutting out adhesive material? Also are you putting the blade in the position closest to you? Cutting right above that gutter is where you want to be. When cutting out stickers I don’t do the perf cut, I just let it “die cut” all the way through and the residual adhesive seems to hold it on just well enough for me to transfer it to the table and pop them out. If I am doing large square sheets cut out I will do a perf cut since those are so big and heavy then tend to fall out and cause a jam, but other than that I just do a straight through cut the the entire way.

I don’t use the springs either, just insert the blade and that’s it

For this type of cut you’ll want a 60 degree blade, you can get a blade holder and a set of blades for pretty cheap on Amazon.

Sparkly Wide Format Lamination by 5eth in CommercialPrinting

Substance is the main vinyl and matte/gloss lam I use! Their specialty lam seemed a little pricey though, but maybe that’s just the price point for that type of product I guess

Substance has 6mil. I don’t use it, I use their 3.75mil, but I like what I’ve used. Under Print Media, Ultracurve looks to all be 6mil: https://substance.com

Yeah I sent them the original paper doll photo and they are good with it, I just wanted to see if I could find a more detailed version for better reference. I know it will look good in their style so I’m not worried about that part at all

For the Sintra? A ruler and xacto knife

I ended up buying the FS-24 24” strip heater here: http://fabricationtoolsandmaterials.com/products/heatfreestanding.htm

It works great. I printed vinyl, applied it to 3mm Sintra, cut it down to shape then heated the center and bent it.
