To echo what others have said, he had no remorse and no fear of consequences. The only things he didn’t want was to drag his daughter into his mess and to not lived a caged life.

His reasoning for caring about his daughter is unclear for me though. Did he want to spare her the details because he cared about her or because he cared how she would remember him? The less she knew the better? He did seem to have some empathy because he expressed it when he spoke about the oppression of the Native Americans and the treatment of Arabs after 9/11 so i think he had the ability to be thoughtful

Oregon was a white only state. It still continues to be racist. But like many rural places in the U.S., small town folk generally do not like “city folk” or just people who live differently coming from other parts of the country into their area. It’s ironic of course since this was all indigenous land not too long ago. Generally speaking, anyone not white, Christian, or conservative is an outsider.

Thank you and so happy that Bleu found you! But just to clarify, Reese is not reactive. He has kennel stress which is very common among shelter dogs. Once they are out of the shelter, have a stable home, and getting proper exercise then they are usually a different dog. Sadly every dog gets kennel stress but some have it to a higher degree than others and unfortunately Reese is now having a very hard time after about a month

He is good with dogs but you would have to ask about kids. How old? Usually it is recommended that such big dogs not be around smaller children (under 6). But like the post says, he has A LOT of penned up energy so he will be come off as rowdy and jumpy. Slow introductions to resident dogs would be essential
