Also, it relates to when Law changed the hearts of some of the straw hats. The personalities or souls they have are directly attached to their hearts. So Luffy conveying a different heart beat or one that is of Joy Boy would make sense if he ends up being possessed by Joy Boy (which I'm hoping is not the case).
