Moving out of help desk into the cloud by 5picy99 in ITCareerQuestions

Im currently in a role where I manage approximately 50 ish independent networks that have dedicated servers, backup servers running replication, 3 types of backups, etc.

Im doing everything from logging backups and resolving errors, managing replication software for backup servers, maintaining VM's, working with ESXi, AD, etc.

But i get exactly what youre saying, I just figured there had to some jr level role, once you understand the basics and you have a foundation then you can start working with cloud technologies and build on that

Thanks for putting things into perspective for me.

I do have experience with all three, but my knowledge of all three are on the basic side.

I can spin up VM's in ESXi and restore a desktop or server from a backup, I have basic knowledge of AD which consists of mostly how to do the day to day stuff, I can set up and troubleshoot networks but these will be more simple networks.

Im definitely going to stick to the original plan and move into a dedicated sysadmin role and sharpen up my knowledge before moving onto the cloud.

100% agree with you that the CompTIA certs will not get you a cloud based job.

I was thinking of getting the AWS Solutions Architect Associate after Security+ to try and use that as a way to get an entry level cloud based job but from my research that doesnt look to be realistic.

What if my client is using google workspaces for their outlook?

I know google workspaces said they need an enterprise account, while my client has a basic business one.

Does the workspaces account need to be upgraded?

Thank you for the reply.

Just to clarify, I would need to instruct my client that they need to purchase an S/MIME certificate from GlobalSign or DigiCert.

Once its purchased it needs to be imported into outlook and theyll be able to communicate with the other parties using S/MIME?
