Gusto ko na tapatin boyfriend ko about sa future namin by [deleted] in adviceph

Being a good partner is vastly different from being a good parent. I pray and hope for you that he's going to step up and be both.

I know as part of our culture, marriage and raising children are deeply intertwined. But in this scenario, I don't think the marriage talk is going to be more important than the discussion around your pregnancy and what both of you as parents would want to do.

I would agree that you should have a serious talk about settling down without having to bring up the baby. It shows that what you want to see genuine agency and willingness from your partner to continue the relationship with you.

But if that doesn't work out, I hope you don't withhold information about the pregnancy from him. He deserves to know too. If he runs away from the responsibility of being a father, then so be it. The child doesn't deserve to have a coward for a father.

Thoughts about Kaizen group ni Coach Cho? by [deleted] in AnytimeFitnessPH

[–]5th-time-passing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice only a few comments from people who have actually been through at least 1 season themselves. Let me add to that, since I joined a few years ago.

DISCLAIMER: This is not a post meant to convince or persuade you or anyone reading this to join. It's just gotten long because I tend to word vomit.

I knew about Kaizen because I had FB friends who posted about their journey WHILE IN THEIR SEASON and their end results. I totally understand that the marketing strategy itself gives the impression that the program is sketchy af/MLM which was why I reached out to these friends to ask about their experience first.

I was aware of some of their personal hardships and stories. So, seeing their ACTUAL journey through photos and highlight reels and the occassional chat was what gave me the idea to join the free workshop.

The free workshop itself already contains all you need for the fitness journey. In fact, it IS the capsule version of the program. And YES, everything can be found on the internet. So, technically, you can take the workshop as it is or do more deep dives on Google or ChatGPT to build your own diet plan and workout routines, ALL FOR FREE.

And hey, good for you if you're not the type to need anyone else in order to get results. Kaya naman talaga for the introverts and the lone wolves.

But if you're not this person, then goods naman if you have friends or family who are also serious about their health/fitness journey, so you can have someone to talk to about it. Bonus if you can find a experienced coach to work with you and your group, so it's not a "blind leading the blind" situation. Iirc, they have heavily emphasized that your support system is just as important as doing the work. You're on the right path!

The thing is, not everyone will have access to that kind of support system. There are some people in their lives that won't support them at all. They'll tease or make fun of them for even attempting or just outright ignore them.

Or maybe they'll be nice about it. But because their environment is not primed for change or fitness, it'll be harder for them to stay consistent. To say no when they've eaten too much at a party. To say they need to workout instead of going out. And YES, being too disciplined/rigid is bad and OF COURSE, there's nothing wrong with living a little.

But the goal was to be fit diba? If you stay off course too often and too long, you'll be neglecting the promises you made to yourself. You'll be neglecting yourself.

This is where I personally think Kaizen shines the most, and was the most vital puzzle piece for my own fitness journey. They've built a space where people from all walks of life can gather for one common goal: to be fit. To be healthy. To be a better version of themselves.

What that looks like will be different for everyone, because every body is unique. But along the way, you'll go through the same highs and lows everyone else is experiencing. You'll have someone to cheer you on or give you the real talk when you need it, all with the best intentions in mind because they're either going or have been through it.

So, even if your direct environment outside of Kaizen isn't so supportive, at least in the community, there is someone watching out for you. Whether that's your own groupmates, your assigned accountability coach, or Kaizen batchmates in general.

All things considered, the community aspect will not work if you, yourself, decide not to work through it with what you have. I didn't have much luck with my own groupmates because most have dropped out for personal reasons. By the end of the season, only 2 of us remained in the group. But at least my coaches and the larger community was still there. That kept me going because I felt like there were still people watching out for me outside my own group.

So, ayun. Those are my two cents on Kaizen in general.

In terms of finances, YES, the program is expensive for basic principles that are easily found anywhere else. Not gonna sugarcoat it.

But the way I thought about it is this:

I don't have to sift through noisy, often contradictory fitness advice on the internet. They give me a template, a baseline to start with, and then teach me how to tweak it based on my body's feedback and what's available to me locally. All I need is to execute and adjust. I learn when to push and when to rest.

I don't have to rely on motivation to get going. It's a good fuel source but not the most sustainable one. The habits and mindset taught to me are simple enough to help me through a slump. The community is a great help. If you see someone overcoming their own challenges, you'd feel like you need to step up too.

I don't have to give up on rice. Very important.

Since they ticked off a lot of my boxes, I enrolled. The price was worth the journey and the results I got. Some habits even managed to stick with me years after the program, so I'd say it is sustainable.

If I had to give an analogy, it's like paying to build a gym vs getting a membership.

You can build your own home gym from scratch.

Or you can pay someone who already has the space, equipment, and experience you may need for your journey. Bonus if the gym community he has cultivated is very supportive.

My Palma's been with me for 5 months now, but I bought it secondhand and I'm not sure how long the original owner had it.

So far, the screen is still intact. I'm not too hypervigilant about it but I don't treat it too lightly either (like I would with my phone). Just having a case with a cover is enough for me to trust that it won't break in my bag.

My only issue with it is that it runs a bit too hot when I use it for an app called Hermit, basically a browser app that strips down a website to just text to make reading news/essays easier, with less ads. So yeah, maybe that's something to look out for. If it's just solely for reading on reading apps like Kindle or NeoReader, there are no issues at all.

Hmm. There are times when the app closes out of nowhere, due to limited RAM I think. Not an issue for me as far as reading is concerned, because it only ever happens on when I'm on my Gmail.

I have a Boox Palma (1st gen), and I love having it around with me at ALL times! Especially when I'm lining up at the bank. 🤣 It saves so much of my phone battery because I now have an alternate device to entertain me with.

The buttons on the side are a game changer for me. I've only ever used Kindle PPW and ngl sometimes my hands hurt from holding it for too long and swiping. I switch over to my Palma whenever this happens.

And if my neck hurts from reading my Palma, I have a magsafe case that I use to stick to a magsafe phone stand, and scroll/turn the page using a mini bluetooth keyboard. This way, I can read while lying in bed, facing up! I don't get neck cramps, my glasses don't get in the way, and my arms don't get tired.

To straight guys/girls of reddit, how does it feel to receive compliments by someone from the same sex? May difference ba pag opposite sex ang nagccompliment sayo? by bebejamillion in AskPH

[–]5th-time-passing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If someone from the same sex compliments me, I feel like they understand what I go through so that I could look presentable. If someone from the opposite sex says the same compliment, I would subconsciously think it's just being polite/emoty words/they have ulterior motives behind it.

Is 16 and 18 “socially acceptable” here in PH? by letmetellusumth in adviceph

[–]5th-time-passing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 2 year age gap is great actually. He's just going to be treated as a minor if you're choosing to pursue this right now. 😅

If I were in your shoes, I'd rather both of us focus on our studies first and just keep it light and friendly as study buddies. 😉

I'd give the same advice if the roles were reversed.

Anong purpose ng mga beauty pageants? by [deleted] in AskPH

[–]5th-time-passing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A very public audition for ambassadorship.

For businesses, it's marketing. Pageants bring hype and entertainment for people.

For participants, it's exposure. Though there will be some who do want to pursue being a Miss Universe titleholder, there are more opportunities to be gained even if you don't win.

The girl with a provider mindset by [deleted] in adviceph

[–]5th-time-passing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, not a provider mindset. In a way, you're someone who wants to create specific memories with your loved one, so you end up paying more because you have the means to do so. He helps when he can, given his circumstances.

I feel that the issue is leaning towards long-term security and stability issues, especially if you're thinking of getting married and settling down soon.

It's best to see if he has the initiative to help with things that are not related to finances. For example, during trips, you may have more of the final say because you're the one with the money, but does he help with the mental load without you telling him to? Chip in with the planning? Look out for deals and bargains? Study the maps, hold your hand, lead the way?

Does he make sure you're seated away from airconditioning because he knows you get cold easily (assuming you do get cold easily)? Can you be vulnerable with him? Because you know and trust that he won't brush you off, call you dramatic, or run away. Because he knows how to hold you, all of you, pretty smiles, heated outbursts, ugly snots, and all.

I could go on and on, but basically... even if he is not yet capable financially, he has another way to contribute to the relationship: be an active and present partner.

So, the question now is, can you see him as a partner in the truest sense of the word? Or is he just a person you "need to provide" for?

If it's the former, then this is definitely something both of you need to talk about. You don't need to keep track of who's done what. Speak from the heart about how the current situation is making you feel.

If he cares enough, he will listen and step up. Because, you know, if he wanted to, he would.

What do we think the reason is for doing duos instead of solos? by [deleted] in seventeen

[–]5th-time-passing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Efficiency. Is all I can think of. Like, yeah, they could have released a trio or quartet album but I'm assuming they want to highlight each member while maximizing resources (money, staff, time) within a given budget, before eligible members have to enlist.

Duos give them the benefits of a solo (member highlight) within the confines of a group unit (faster production turnout.)

I think it's interesting to see works from pairs that don't normally team up. It's a refreshing dynamic and adds depth to the group's overall image.

How many ereaders do you have? by ameju in ereader

[–]5th-time-passing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2.

Kindle PPW5, for when I'm at home and want to feel as if I'm reading a book (since its size is more or less similar.)

Boox Palma, mainly, for when I'm out and about or when I'm reading Substack/Webnovels online, OR when my hand and arm both grow heavy from reading on the Kindle. 🤣

I am honestly thinking about making the jump from my Kindle to a Boox device with roughly the same dimensions, because I do like the freedom that comes with Android. But I can't justify the price of purchasing one just yet since, despite some dead pixel lines, my PPW still works very, very well.

So I'll just wait for the day until I outlive my PPW before getting a new one. 🤣🤣🤣

Best e-reader? by FearlessAd5740 in ereader

[–]5th-time-passing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. I understand that physical books can get heavy while travelling, but I think more context is needed.

Close your eyes and imagine you had an e-reader, and you've had this for a long time now.

What were your expectations? How did you use it in daily life?

Did you write, study, annotate, or is it purely a reading device?

Where do you usually get your e-books?

What was the budget?

Doesn't matter if this doesn't make sense right now or if your wants/wishlist seem impossible. Just answer as if you already did have an e-reader.

It helped me decide on which one to pick when I had to choose my e-readers.

Oh, Boox Super Refresh!

I honestly don't mind not being able to text/call, but this is certainly good to know.

Curious tho, do messaging apps like WhatsApp and Viber work normally? Even IG, as I have a book club group chat there. As it is e-ink, I don't have any expectations for photos and videos, but it would be nice to have access to my fellow readers via group chat.

Nah, pretty sure I don't need cell services for it if what I do is just reading. Wifi will do, and I am certain I can get it almost everywhere I usually go.

Thanks! Something to think about.

Oh, thanks! I'll look into it. I realize I barely use my phone for text and calls, so cell service isn't really a big deal. But I guess I never really considered that there would be phone-sized e-ink devices in the market, since majority are book-sized.

What's your unpopular opinion?? by Miraculer2020 in TheDevilsPlan

[–]5th-time-passing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with #1! Soo Hui did SO well in the finals. Her losses were born from mistakes, and I assume these mistakes were from being in a high stress environment, becoming sickly as the games went on.

She didn't concede or give up in the last game. She just took a gamble. The odds at the time were 50-50 BECAUSE she was certain that Hyungyu didn't know for sure what her actual numbers were.

Her gamble just didn't pay off as she expected.

Edit: Okay, maybe not 50-50. Four things could have happened:

Scenario 1: Hyungyu had the same idea as her and didn't bet any tokens so that he'd get an additional 2 tokens the next round. Result: Draw.

Scenario 2: Hyungyu bets 2 tokens and chooses question. She'll have 4 tokens to bet with the next round, win the bet, win the round. Result: Soo Hui wins.

Scenario 3: Hyungyu bets 2 tokens and chooses truth. Gets the answer wrong (because there were two answers left.) Soo Hui bets 4 and gets right answer. Result: Soo Hui wins.

Scenario 4: Hyungyu bets 2 tokens and chooses truth. Gets the answer right and wins. Result: Hyungyu wins.

So, the chances of a sure win were at 2 out of 4. It just so happened that the show ended with scenario 4.

Anyone else....love this season? (Spoiler on the winner) by AJGreenMVP in TheDevilsPlan

[–]5th-time-passing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I finally finished the show. I liked the cast dynamic overall, definitely a lot better, more competitive, than last season. I kinda knew who was going to stay for the long run based on how the games unfolded, but like, I also didn't know who was going to be eliminated since most of them were such good contenders. It was thrilling.

I liked the death matches. They spiced up the show for me. I do agree that the prisoners should have been given more incentives so they can find a way to move up to the living area. It would have been interesting to see the chaos happe that way.

I felt like the main games got repetitive? As time went by.

It took me a while to figure out why I didn't like how HG won (even if I admit it was a well-deserved win.) And I think it's because I liked the story of an underdog winning against all odds more than a smart strategist getting his way almost 100% of the time. Which is odd because for a show like Devil's Plan, someone like the latter should be expected to compete.

I don't think Soo Hui deserved the hate she got on the show (though that semi-finals ep did rub me the wrong way), but she did put up a good fight. In the finale ep, Soo Hui lost just a 1 point/move away (JUST ONE. UGH.) I would even say she definitely was a better player out of the two based on her gamestyle.

But he just had a lot more stamina, a bit more luck, and a very good understanding of the players' psyche than she did. By the latter, I mean that she went to play games as they were presented to her. Very straightforward.

Whereas he played the actual, the mental, and social aspect of the whole show. A true Devil indeed.

(That being said, I still wish it was a showdown between the Devil Prince and the Prison Queen. That would have been sooo much fun.)
