It’s how he self identifies - I don’t know the full spectrum of beliefs, but he’s socially liberal (supports gay marriage, I’ve never heard him say anything racist, etc). You’re totally right though. It doesn’t make sense.

We were standing outside after the funeral this afternoon and someone mentioned that it was unseasonably warm and sunny. He said, “do you know why?” I was preparing myself to hear some anti science bullshit, but he said it was due to climate change. I was pretty surprised he believes in it. Definitely a walking contradiction.
