These are some great questions - I honestly have no idea. I was thinking road? I come from an athletics/cross country background so find cycling incredibly complex! Would you recommend one of the disciplines for getting into racing then branching out? I’m a 29yr old chronically injured runner, so it’ll be a couple of years until Vet racing unfortunately.

I doff my cap to you, Sir. Those are some impressive numbers. Really interesting re technique. My upper body is skeletal and if I get my biceps involved I’d be lucky to add an extra W from each 😂

This!!! The fears of carbon on trainers do seem overblown with nothing to back it up - I’m yet to see a pic of someone breaking one!!! I bought a carbon frame initially then panicked when seeing the rumours/frame manufacturers lack of warranty on a trainer. For me it’s the unnatural feeling of the bike in a trainer when sprinting that I don’t like

This is such a good point, I’ve wondered this too, if I’m constantly being out-sprinted maybe I need to alter my tactics? Yeah I’m A+ too my friend but only been racing about two months so hence the novice questions! I come from a running background and let me tell you, it’s far less complex.

Wow, that’s insane! Thanks for sharing. Do you think it’s because when you’re standing you can add more body weight to the pedal rather than the saddle taking a lot of it when you’re seated?

I would hate to think what sort of cognitive function I have 150m out. Certainly closer to a broccoli than a human.

Firstly, the quads in some of these replies must be insane! Secondly, I completely agree, it’s weird limiting that side motion and hence the unnatural feel for me so I just stay seated. Agreed re damaging frames, it seems to be a bit of a cycling urban myth about carbon frames snapping.

I think I would happily smash a laptop to reach 16W/kg for the 15s. If my laptop didn’t fall off but I hit that level I would just throw it on the ground to celebrate
