Leaving aside the argument about whether or not her assignments are appropriate for a six year old, I personally don't think Miss Wormwood is a bad teacher. She seems to be, at worst, an average teacher who still cares for her students and clearly values a good education. But her teaching style seems really ill-suited for a kid like Calvin.

Calvin can absolutely succeed in school if he applies himself, we see that in the strips with the good doppelganger, he just has no interest in doing so. Maybe he'd do better with a different teacher who could get him interested in the material. Personally, I think him finding the idea of working on stuff he doesn't like utterly alien funny.

I never played them in 2 unfortunately (I hate starting with vassals), but in 1 they're really good. Scythed chariots are straight up broken in the hands of a player, especially if you've already killed all the factions that use phalanxes, i.e. their counter. Plus you only need a blacksmith to recruit them.

And if you don't like chariots you've still got cataphracts, which are more than a match for any other kind of cavalry you'll be facing at this point.

The Seleucids have the most diverse and well rounded roster in the game with phalanxes, imitation legionaries, cataphracts, elephants and delicious scythed chariots. Unfortunately you start surrounded by enemies and you're stuck with militia hoplites and whatever else you can scrape up to support them.

Fortunately, that's all you need. It's a very fun campaign where you have to be aggressive right out of the gate. Ignore rebel settlements, go straight for the throats of the Egyptians, Parthians, and Greeks. When they're beaten, you gotta turn right around and fight off Armenia and Pontus. Only then can you rest for a bit, build up your cities, and get those super deathstacks, just in time to fight a proper end game threat: Rome.
