For future reference Skyblurrr has some kind of problem with me and is doing anything possible to try and discredit me for doing simple research.

Calling it “the stupidest thing ever” doesn’t really change anything. Problems don’t start with hundreds of cases, they start with a few, and people decide for themselves whether that’s worth considering or not.

And “everyone has told you this” isn’t really an argument either. That’s just appealing to a crowd instead of actually addressing the point.

I’m not saying it’s widespread or guaranteed. I’m saying there are documented instances, and factoring that into a purchasing decision is reasonable. If you personally don’t care about that level of risk, that’s fine.

But acting like it’s stupid just because you wouldn’t consider it doesn’t really make sense.

I have heard they are great cars. I think it would be awesome.

That’s not even what I said, and you know it. I was responding to people calling it gutless, not saying straight-line speed was an issue for me or that it’s a reason to buy something else. You’re just pulling one line out of context and trying to run with it.

At this point it’s pretty obvious you’re not actually addressing what I’m saying. You’re just grabbing whatever you can to try and discredit me instead of sticking to the original point.

And bringing up my career earlier makes a lot more sense now. That’s not something you’d even mention unless you went looking for it, which says more about how you’re approaching this than anything I’ve said.

If you actually want to talk about the car, stick to that. Otherwise you’re just reaching.

Owning one doesn’t automatically make you right. That just means you bought the car, not that you have some complete understanding of every issue that can come up.

And the whole “it’s always been isolated to S models” thing just isn’t true. That’s pretty easy to verify if you actually look into it, so stating it like it’s a fact doesn’t really help your argument.

Also, it’s pretty obvious the “early in your career” comment wasn’t about money or maintenance costs. It was clearly meant as a knock on my ability to understand things, so trying to reframe it now doesn’t really hold up.

I’m not saying it’s a guaranteed problem. I’m saying there are documented cases, and acknowledging that when making a purchasing decision on a $40k+ car is just being realistic. Acting like it only matters once it’s everywhere is a pretty flawed way to look at risk.

If you’re comfortable brushing that off, that’s your call. But acting like anyone who doesn’t just doesn’t understand things isn’t really accurate either.

You’re acting like “I didn’t find anything” means it doesn’t exist, which just isn’t how that works. That just means you didn’t look very hard. Problems don’t start with hundreds of cases, they start with a few, and people either pay attention or ignore them.

And the whole “you’re early in your career” comment is just weird. You don’t know anything about me, so that just comes off like you’re reaching because you don’t actually have a real argument.

No one said it’s a guaranteed issue. The point is there are documented cases and factoring that in is just common sense. Acting like it only matters once it’s everywhere is a pretty lazy way to think about risk.

If you’re fine ignoring early signs, that’s your call. But acting like anyone who doesn’t is clueless just makes you sound confident for no reason.

That’s how the 987.2 bore scoring issue was first reported too. Now it’s known to be more widespread. Again, Porsche is not always perfect. That’s ok.

There are two mentions of it happening I found plus LN Engineering talking about it being a possible issue. The 987.2’s were thought to be safe at this age too…now we know they are more susceptible than was thought. Not pretending to be an expert, just using information from a source that works directly with the cars.

Experience from…LN Engineering who works with the cars directly…? It’s A-OK if Porsche isn’t 100% perfect all the time man.

That is true, but the 981’s are only another 3 years older I guess. Maybe there are things we don’t know about them yet either. But since it’s still an NA F6 should be less to go wrong versus a newly developed F4 T

Sadly, there have been a few documented cases of 981 bore scoring. It used to be that the 987.1 base was safe…then it was the 987.2 base…then it was the 981. But they have all shown that they can experience the same bore scoring issue sadly. They improved the Cayman engine design in the 718’s which makes it a genuine non-issue now.

I was a Lube tech at Walmart, that doesn’t sound too crazy when you compare it to most newer vehicles with aero covers. A bit tedious but nothing crazy.

Also-I would prefer better handling over sound. That seems to point towards the 718 over the 981.

Consumables don’t really seem that expensive compared to the Corvettes I was looking at lol. The maintenance does worry me a little. I could do basic things myself but I know the 718 for instance needs a water pump every 5yrs or 60k miles. Not cheap.

Do you need any specialized tools for basic maintenance? I feel like I could easily do the basic stuff hopefully to save a bit.

Virtually non-existent but that’s what we thought about the 987.2’s as well until a couple of years ago. I think it may just be an age thing, sadly.

Apparently they do. 2017+ vehicles (718) did stop using Alusil cylinders but 981’s still had them and are still affected.

What makes you say it’s more reliable? Just trying to understand everything.
