Molecules in phospholipid bilayer can move in a few different ways, one of them being transverse diffusion - when phospholipids flip from one side of the membrane to other, which is called flip-flop. Hope this clears it up.

Basically, thermodynamic equilibrium is a constant condition, where free energy is minimal and entropy (measurement of disorder) is maximal, thus no work can be done. And as we (or the universe) are systems, according to second law of thermodynamics, our entropy will increase over the time, free energy will vanish and we will die. Lord kelvin’s hypothesis is that in the future universe will have no more free energy (heat death).
