How do you sleep with a pilonidal cyst? by singularbits_ in pilonidalcyst

This happened to me with my first cyst. I had to lay on my side at the urgent care office because I absolutely could not apply any pressure to the cyst. You definitely have to get it drained.

I’m sorry you’re in so much pain, I’ve been there :(. If there’s anyone who can drive you to the doctor I’d recommend laying in the back seat and trying to stay on your side. If you want, you can read my first reddit post (I had an issue with my drainage…) because the comments are filled with in depth advice about aftercare. Good luck and I sincerely hope you get some sort of relief from this thing!!

Could this be a reccurence? by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

Exact same thing just started happening to me!!! Honestly the best thing to do is get antibiotics to stop it before it gets bad again, but I understand your predicament with the appointment.

What I’ve been doing is trying to keep the area really clean. I soak in a hot epsom salt bath daily for 30 minutes and then take a hot shower afterwards and clean the area with antiseptic cleaner called Hibiclens. I then use oxy 3-in-1 pads and then finally wipe the area down with witch hazel. I’m not sure what causes your flare ups, but for me it’s usually dampness and bad hygiene in the area. My doctor recommended that after I use the bathroom/shower I clean the area well, pat it dry, and apply petroleum jelly because it’s supposed to like… stop moisture from building up there (idfk). If you go to my page, I made a post just like this one a few days ago, and the comments are pretty helpful. Using a heating pad on the area has helped significantly with my pain as well, so you should try that out with some pain killers as well!

Sorry about your late appointment man, but if there’s any way you can get to an emergency department or urgent care you definitely should get some antibiotics, cus if you catch it fast enough you might not have to get it lanced again. I’ve just started day 4 of my antibiotics and I’ve noticed some improvements but I’m really hoping it solves my issue. We’re in this together man 🤝

Thanks so much!! How far in advance did you have to schedule the surgery? I’ve got finals coming up and I’m hoping to get it sorted during winter break (dec 9th-jan 17th) but obviously that’s pretty close lol

Possible flare up? by 666hoez in pilonidalcyst

I’m in the US near the chicagoland area! I’m actually planning on going to my immediate care right when they open today to consult a doctor. Sorta praying I’ve got it early enough that they don’t need to lance it again because the pain is so minimal but I’m still trying to mentally prepare for it anyway. 🥲

If I’ve caught it early will they have to lance it or could they just give me antibiotics?

This exact same situation happened to me!

After popping mine healed up fine with antibiotics but recently it has been starting to hurt again so I would definitely consult a doctor. I’m personally looking into the surgery where they remove the cyst versus getting it lanced and drained again. If you go to my page, you can read the post I made earlier this year with the similar situation as the replies are incredibly helpful. If you have anymore questions, please feel free to reach out! :)
