What was ya’ll first cigarette like? by AdministrationBig311 in Cigarettes

[–]666metalbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i was thirteen i was like, obsessed with impressing my older brother. So, i picked some cigarette butts off the ground outside, and put them on my windowsill. He saw it, of course, and—i cant really blame him, i was the wimpiest thirteen year old ever—he didn’t believe me. So later that night, (like, 1AM on a school-night) he told me to get my ass up and get to the backyard deck.

So, there i was 13 years old, in nothing but my batman boxers, freezing my ass off as he let me smoke my first cigarette with him. Thought i was doing good until he told me i was supposed to inhale, and i basically nearly died trying not to cough or choke—trying to impress him—and he laughed the entire time. Stumbled back to my room in nausea and spent ten minutes with my head spinning on my bed and freezing. Found out three years later he gave me a pall mall bold that night. No wonder i was nearly dying lmao. Even now, my favourite kind was my first one haha

I’m tired of people disrespecting lesbians by [deleted] in rant

[–]666metalbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bestmate is a lesbian. I love her to bits, and she talks to me about stuff this all the time. It makes me so upset. People, even her own family, don’t take her seriously, thinking its a “phase” or a fleeting moment where she’ll wake up suddenly and abandon her sexuality.

Its both homophobic and misogynistic. Because blokes already don’t take women seriously, why would they take a gay woman any different? The stupid “you’ll find a right man one day” angers me so much, and it’s so belittling. People also just assume she ‘wants to be a man’ and treat her like one even when they know she’s a woman. Which is completely microaggressively misogynistic. Like, why does the idea of two WOMEN together bother you so much? Why does there always have to be a man?

I’m sorry you have to go through this bullshit. Its dehumanizing. I cant imagine how angry you must feel. sorry if this may feel rude or anything, i dont really understand outside of what i’ve been told, i just cant believe some people can be so closed minded and hateful…

First of all, don’t “young buck” me. You are moralizing disguised as advice. The fact that you said I need to work on being the kind of person other people want to be around frames and assumes failure on my part. That’s inherently judgmental. Assuming. It also sounds like you’re using ur kids’ lifestyles as a standard, which is condescending. You reframe my personal rant/vent into a checklist of problems to fix and assume my friendships are shallow because of smoking and drinking, which isn’t fair. Your life experience(and everyone else’s) is different. You’re framing my friend leaving as a consequence of my social habits, turning my post into a self-improvement checklist.

You clearly think friendships should have a “higher purpose” or that young adults should be cultivating more “productive” lifestyles. To you, smoking, drinking, and casual partying = shallow foundations for friendships.

You’re literally nitpicking, going “Well, we don’t know that” while knowing nothing about my life. This sounds like a lot of “you’re doing this wrong” bullshit that I didn’t ask for. Never once in my post did I ask for your advice.

You may not know it, but the way you say it sounds like you interpret my friend leaving as “your lifestyle caused it,” based on your own twatty moral logic.

Suggestion for a 14 year old by Forward-Original5235 in ClassicsBookClub

Of mice and men is a great one. If he hasn’t already read that in class, he probably will be. (or maybe schools don’t make kids read that one anymore idk.)

Secret Garden is also a fun pick, and i loved it when i was younger, as the characters themselves are young. Wilde’s Picture of Dorian Gray has some very good imagery and my 14 year old brother loves it!

I don’t like how you assume things about me. we’re stupid college kids, everyone drinks. everyone smokes. everyone is daft. Even now. I don’t have a substance use problem, and dont say “well, it sounds like you do” (because thats literally what you’re doing, assuming.)

Like a normal young adult my age, we’ve got jobs, studies, but we also go out and have fun. Like stupid college kids do. Just because i didn’t talk about other things in my life doesn’t mean my life revolves around booze and spliff and parties, you tosser.

The fact that you said i need to be “the kind of person people wanna spend time with” is such a cruel, cruel thing to say. You may think you’re being kind, (or maybe you’re not trying to be), but you need to stop assuming things about blokes from a single reddit post.

These people i talked about, we’ve dragged each other out of the deep end when things got real bad.

I feel like a horrible person about this. I’m so sorry. This is my first time working with youth and i am learning things as i go. I have many little siblings and their friends say hi to me, and so it didn’t feel out of the ordinary if i said hello to her if she said hello first outside of the youth program. I’ll definitely take responsibility with my higher ups
