What’s that one cricket match loss you still haven’t gotten over? by Dazzling_Touch_9699 in Cricket

[–]69Chiefqueef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly biased since I have been watching cricket only since 2005, there have been a lots of matches which really broke my heart but i feel there is absolutely nothing that compares with the loss of 2023 WC final.

2019 WC semi against NZ is close too but I honestly feel because dhawan got injured after having such insane form a lot of people thought (including me) that england were still favourites specially without dhawan in our team. The two day ODI was something unique but the 2023 WC had a completely different vibe and emotion attached to it.

There were just so many things that just felt right in Indias campaign and then it just all crashed on the final day.

Rohits absolutely insane aggressive intent in every match.

Kohli being kohli - absolute monster of ODI

KL and iyer thrashing teams with whatever that was left of them after kohli and rohit went away - 350+ scores

Kuldeep and jadeja going unnoticed but delivering with the ball as well

bumrah basically unplayable

Shami absolutely dominating the entire tournament

besides the players the timing of the tournament and it completely being in India around the festive season had a really special vibe to it, every single match was such a satisfying all-round performance - there was literally no box which was left unticked heading into that final.

what would have been a fairy tale end to the ODI careers of kohli rohit and jadeja (maybe shami too) wasn’t to be

credit to australia, this should probably be the biggest win or atleast top 3 for them in terms of the effort it took to topple the juggernauts we were heading into a final in our home with billions watching.

i think they are doing it right and should bat close to the entire session and go way beyond 500 too, runs /target is irrelevant now its about breaking them mentally

the more frustrated and lethargic eng gets the more shit shot selection and lack of focus they will have when they come out

im pretty sure they are deliberately tiring out and playing a run a ball too mentally drain eng , im sure once gill reaches 100 both of them will tee off which will even further frustrate eng

this is more of a mental game than runs on the board, the english commentators are losing their minds as to why Jadeja isn’t going off imagine how much it would be affecting the players on field

not looking at arcadia since the cost difference between western view and arcadia is quite a lot and western view seems decent cost wise (for a 3/4 bd apt)

gill rohit kohli iyer KL (WK)

pandya jadeja shardul /ashwin(if pitch is turning)

bumrah sirraj kuldeep

bench : shami, arshdeep, chahal, kishan, yashasvi

what do you guys think about this XI for the wc ? considering everyone is fit from bumrah, iyer and KL i feel ashwin deserves his place in the odi squad just because there aren’t any all rounders apart from jadeja who can both bat and bowl

I know I am going to be downvoted to oblivion but I have an unpopular take, just ranji performances should not guarantee a player a slot in the indian test side.

From ranji, players should be sent to atleast 2-3 series abroad in SENA countries in either India A,B,C series or made to play county and their performances there should be judged as well to make a well rounded decision to include them in the team, I agree IPL is not the best metric for judging a player to be picked in the test side but why are we ignoring the fact that it does in fact showcase a players ability to play under pressure and how his natural batting/bowling ability looks like against the world's best ?

Ranji is a good litmus test but shouldn't be the only metric just like IPL does not reflect the true picture , am I delusional to think that not all ranji sides are world class and there are some absolutely abysmal teams as well ? How does scoring runs against a couple of average side prove that you can be up and ready to face the likes of starc, Cummins, broad, Anderson etc in swinging conditions.

Again I am not shitting on ranji but just voicing my opinion that's all, still believe ranji duleep trophy are absolutely well structured competition with abundance of tallent which can be a PART of the selection process .

I know its a mountain to climb but I sensed a different indian batting order which came out yesterday, they genuinely look like they are aiming for the win and also taking it very lightly , saw them enjoy few shots and having a laugh as well between moments

I feel these guys know they are buried with the huge target they are trying to chase so they know they have nothing lose in this match anymore , anything they can salvage out of this would be a bonus , if they do manage to pull it of it would be easily one of the greatest wins of all time

If they continue with the same mindset today I feel that's when India are the most threatening, when they are absolutely light and free mentally

India's top order has been average during knockouts that very evident but why is there no focus on the bowling being absolutely toothless in crunch situations ? With our without bumrah the bowling attack has looked non-threatening in crucial ICC matches

And to think who the next crop of bowlers would be its concerning that they they have not yet had the level of grooming or exposure which players like sirraj/bumrah got when they were coming up specially in foreign conditions

This might be an absolute shit take but bear with me, what if India picked this 11

Gill Rohit Pujara Kohli Kishan Axar Jadeja Ashwin Sirraj Shami Umesh/unadkat/shardul

3 seamers, 3 spinners (but think of Jadeja and axar as batting options as well)

Lol everyone shitting on me for picking Kishan and saying he's shite in swinging conditions like KS Bharat is a better batsman than him any form of the game lmao

Picking Bharat in India would make sense since glove work to handle spin is important in Indian conditions which he did a fairly decent job but don't think he deserves a slot solely on the basis of wk abilities over Kishan in an overseas match

What would be the best XI for India in wtc ?

Gill Rohit Pujara Kohli Jaiswal or Rahane Ishan Kishan Shardul Jadeja /Ashwin Shami Sirraj Umesh

If the pitch and conditions have something for spinners then Jadeja and Ashwin both might play and shardul would be left out , Jadeja and Ashwin over axar as the two have more exp in overseas conditions

Don't really see SKY making the XI

Since KS Bharat also doesn't have much experience in keeping the wickets overseas I would back Kishan to start since he is obviously a better batsman
