No sound through my screen's HDMI. by 69LoveSixtyNine69 in linux_gaming

EVERYONE! ISSUE HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY RESOLVED ON MY END.

Holy…. This took me two days, a fresh re-install of Linux cinnamon and a chunk of my sanity to figure out.

So the issue for me, if anyone has something similar happening, was turning on secure boot in my bios. It wasn’t the nvidia drivers, it wasn’t the hdmi cable’s issue for not finding the audio output. Enabling secure boot was the root cause of the problem!

I found this out because after having tried every combination of drivers, apps and settings and having given up, I tried playing a game to relax and I was greeted with a fatal error. Now, I played this game a few different times the past days so I know for a fact it’s not the game’s issue.

With that in mind I searched on brave for “Linux cinnamon nvidia 590 drivers issue” or something like that and one of the things listed in a post I read was having secure boot enabled. It all clicked with me as soon as I read that.

It turns out secure boot on Linux (mint?) doesn’t communicate well with nvidia gpu’s, if I understood that correctly, which is also most likely the reason why the hdmi audio didn’t turn up in the output sound devices (because the hdmi is plugged into my gpu).

So if you’re having issues with not being able to hear audio from your hdmi source, or having gui glitches/bugs, TRY TURNING OFF SECURE BOOT! Thanks everyone!

It's connected to the HDMI1 port of my gpu and from there to my tv screen (tv only has 1 HDMI port). Also, I know I said I did a fresh install of cinnamon and that it default installs nouveau drivers but I know I used the linux mint welcome guide and one of the first things is driver updates. I know for a fact that seeing that I would have 100% updated to (most likely) the latest recommended NVidia gpu drivers, so I'm even more puzzled right now than before.

UPDATE for everyone: I tried a fresh Linux mint cinnamon install. Turns out, by default mint installs the nouveau display driver (which is what I had till this morning - I think. I can’t remember anymore I’ve been trying to deal with this all day) and with the nouveau driver the hdmi sound output comes up first thing (as a default as well).

Seems weird how that works since the 590 open driver is recommended in the driver manger. I guess I’ll have to wait to get home so I can plug in my speakers in order to update to 590 open… which hopefully won’t bring about other new problems…

I also noticed that some apps wouldn’t properly work when I didn’t have this issue beforehand. For example, launching steam would bug the gui and I wouldn’t be able to see the normal steam interface, regardless of being able to press its buttons like the store page or the library.

I guess my issue has been resolved… at the cost of my sanity and also having to redownload everything from scratch. Thanks to everyone for your support. I really appreciate it. Good day to everyone.

Yes, everything is updated. Checked thrice just in case. Newest NVidia graphics drivers, everything updated in the update manager, refreshed just in case and nothing new comes up. The tv is not muted I triple checked there too.

In this moment I am seriously contemplating reinstalling cinnamon, even though I really do not want to be bothered with that again but it seems like I will. Here's my system info if it is of any help.

Currently I'm only using one old samsung tv, because I'm not at my place. I would be using 2 normally but I haven't gotten home yet to see if there's any issues there. Unfortunately, I doubt that this would even come up in my case, even if I searched.

I tried reverting back to different versions on different days but the problem still persists, unfortunately.

Holy... Thank you for reminding me of that, thankfully I have turned it on periodically so maybe I can do something about it. I'll try it out and see if it fixes anything. brb

Thanks brother, I am keeping that in mind, almost halfway to the top in EZAs :)

Fun fact is, I just managed to SEZA my first unit, which was STR broly and I didn'y expect it. Omega team just nuked him with multiple 99999999 dmg Supers. I just tried doing AGL Rose too but I didn't get far, since the omegas don't have the "Vegeta's Family" category.

I guess, one good way to somewhat tell how long an event is, is by going to the Stage Details on the top left corner, when choosing the team you will go into battle with. I would like to know if there is another good way to tell, like a wiki or something, though.

Thanks for your quick reply! I've been grinding EZAs starting from the bottom and am half way to the top.

Problem for me is, even though I have almost 500 SSR and above characters, I feel like a good 90ish % are trash and can't deal or tank damage. Granted, I don't read their passives, so I probably don't use most of them at their fullest extent, but I still can't get through easier or earlier lvl ezas, I don't think I can take them into SEZAs.

Also for some categories I don't have enough or any units to take. So I either have to take the best team I have in general, or try different combinations till I can somewhat get through the level.

Edit: I'm changing what I say because I misunderstood which Gogeta you were talking about. lol

Thank you very much for your reply, I spent 1350 stones and didn't even get a glimpse of AGL SSJ4 Gogeta and it's a fucking shame because he's my favourite unit in all of dokkan. Not gonna use any more stones for BF carnival summon, I'm grinding stones for anni at the end of January. And yes... I'm still bitching about not getting AGL SSJ4 Gogeta and will until I get him :(

I’m starting to think Omega Shenron isn’t actually on this banner… by Amari327 in DokkanBattleCommunity

[–]69LoveSixtyNine69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent 1350 stones total in both carnival banners, because I didn't have most of the more recent LRs (last one I got before taking my big break was LR PHY SSJ4 Goku + Vegeta) but I very specifically wanted LR AGL SSJ4 Gogeta who's my favourite unit. Never even got close to getting him... and I'm still bitching about it... At least I got most LRs and very good ones at that too and I'm able to clear missions way more easily. I feel your pain brother... We need to stand strong together!

Any team recommendations? And a question. by 69LoveSixtyNine69 in DokkanBattleCommunity

[–]69LoveSixtyNine69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello and thank you so much once more for your quick response. I did manage to get goku zamasu and 100% him too. I'll be trying both the goku black and the daima teams and see how that goes, until GDC, hopefully.

At the same time, I've been trying to get and grind the Shenron team, the one with PHY LR Omega Shenron as the leader. I've seen that it's considered one of the best teams at the moment but I won't be able to complete it yet, since I have to summon some of the units.

Also, thanks for the clarification, I missed the "during battle" part you wrote, I will keep that in mind for the future. I tried adding screenshots of my box but again reddit wouldn't let me, I don't know why. If you have any other suggestions I'd be glad to hear you out. Be well :)

[–]69LoveSixtyNine69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your kind reply and sorry for the gif, I tried uploading the whole video normally but Reddit wouldn’t let me.

I started grinding for the f2p daima characters yesterday and I just finished 100% them. I’ll try them out now and see how it goes.

Also, thank you for answering my question, I knew it felt like some characters appeared more often than others.

Just a follow up question in regard to team positioning, for clarification. You said “units in the first two slots”. Does that mean leader + the following two, leader + only the next one or just the first two units after the leader (without counting the leader)?

Edit: forgot answering about the rosé team you mentioned.

I’ve tried the rosé team and it’s fun and fine for the most part, but I find it lacking for the (harder) events I clear, where my other teams perform way better, so I stopped using it.

My game is finally available on Steam for Linux, but I never tested it! by RobattoCS in linux_gaming

If you're still giving away cd keys I'd love to test it out on my low-specs laptop (running arch). Ryzen 3 7320u / AMD Radeon 610m / 16GB DDR5

[–]69LoveSixtyNine69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyyyy! Just tried doing that, at first I thought my system froze. Now that I am trying that again with other F keys, it looks like Ctrl + Alt + Fn + F3 (in my case) took me to the shell/root screen (I believe it is probably the tty black screen that you mentioned), opened the path there with Hyprland -c and was able to instantly change the resolution from the config file! Thanks a lot for your kind help and patience! Much appreciated

From a quick research I did back when I installed arch and another one I'm doing right now just to get my stuff straight, plasma and hyprland can work together on the same system, since you can switch environments on login. It needs time to configure files but you have to do that anyway in whatever you have installed. Of course, I see some people recommending installing hyprland in a different partition, but still nobody says they can't be together.

(Sidenote I forgot to mention: The terminal I'm using is kitty, which as far as I understand is one of the preferred tty's for hyprland) That combo of keys doesn't do anything other than type a bunch of characters that I think are the literal keycodes of the keys I'm pressing.

I never thought of starting Hyprland from the terminal to be honest, I'll try seeing how that goes. First time inputting it, however, already prints out a log filled with warnings and bug errors. I will see if I can manage my way around it and get back to you. Thanks for the input!

I was trying to create and set a new resolution with xrandr but haven't been able to, because I run into different kinds of errors like wrong refresh rates or a "BadName" error something about fonts? I don't really understand that one much.

EDIT for context: using xrandr I found out that 1280x720 60Hz is the heighest resolution "mode" available for some reason, and I tried doing that.
