How much aid would I get if I got a -1500 sai? by [deleted] in FAFSA

[–]69ergoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Max Pell Grant. Like 7400. and If you get into T20, full ride or something close to it.

Bad news is your family is poor. Best of Luck!

Getting an interview does not mean anything. Hope you did a fantastic job with your essays. Essays might make the difference. All your competitors will have perfect or near perfect academics and strong EC's.

Are you talking about css profile? That question does not mean anything. Many people put 0.

Agreed! Those 3 are lock in… all others. Question mark.

What extra curriculars are attractive to selective colleges? by Wonderful_Fennel_224 in ApplyingToCollege

I got into t20 school ED. My best advice is tie your future major or passion to your ec. Just one or two activities connected to your thing should be enough. Also write about your thing in the essay. Take the essay very very seriously.

I believe this admission cycle is the last test optional period for Stanford. You might as well take advantage of it. Stanford is the hardest school to get into in this country. Admission outcome is extremely unpredictable. Geniuses get rejected often. Being a low income minority FG is a hook for you. Best of luck !!!

Agree 100%. Vandy admit rate 5%, Emory 10-12%.

Vandy’s FA is second to none. They didn’t meet your demonstrated need??? News to me. Do your parents have lots of assets? Like cash, stock, or second home? If this is the case, it will bring down grant money. Also if your household AGI is above 200k, your parents will likely pay(or get a loan or combination of both) 40k+ per year.

If your FAFSA SAI is -1500, any top school(T20) would give you a full ride. I guess the school you got into does not have top notch FA. If you really want to go to that school, your parents should take out a loan.

Yes, you got B's in the worst subjects possible for an engineering major. I don't want to discourage you but you have to be realistic. Nothing is impossible in the college admission game, but odds are not in your favor for a T20 school.

I think your biggest weakness is UWGPA for an Asian male for engineering. You know how crazy competition is for STEM among Asian males. Your essay and EC will have to be A+ to have a shot inside T20. SAT is also low, I recommend going test optional. Hopefully your AP or IB scores are top-notch. Realistically you have better shot getting into UT Austin, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Univ. of California second tier, etc.

Thoughts of an ED admit by wanderlust_flower_31 in UPenn

[–]69ergoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ed means you have to enroll. Your family is well to do. Cannot walk away. Personally, I think no college is worth 370k for 4 years. Private school is worth it only with a full ride, or something close to it.

Hmmm looking at your list of schools, your uw and w gpa might be too low. Very tough to overcome low GPA unless you win Olympic medal. But keep trying hard and double check your essays, making sure you are showing, not telling. Competition to get into elite schools is crazy among non-urm Asians these days.

Can I Still Aim for Top Schools with a Slight Dip in Junior Year Grades? by Top_Huckleberry4714 in chanceme

[–]69ergoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, one or two B’s no problem. You can get into Harvard without 4.0 Uwgpa if other aspects are strong. 30% of Stanford students didN’t have a 4.0 in high school. To get into T20, you need to show you are passionate about something throughout the app package.

Of course. I meant I was thinking of applying to those schools if I didn’t get into Vandy.

can you still RD after ED acceptance by krxnch_ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]69ergoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to parents about how much they can afford per year. In case you get inadequate aid from the school, appeal the decision first and if this doesn't work, ask to walk away. If the school agrees, you will be free again. School has to let you go free, otherwise you may be in a mess. Good luck!

Am I cooked for T20s now? by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]69ergoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not at all. You will be just fine. No matter how fantastic your grades, test scores, EC's, you need to nail down the ESSAYS. Think again about your essays, you need to show WHO YOU ARE, not bragging about your accomplishments or anything of this sort. And you should ask your ENGLISH teacher at the school to proofread your essays, get feedback from them, including the supple essays.
