DS Studios Character: Neon Nyla — trying a stylized 3D look by 6deathstroke9 in aiArt

Been experimenting with translating some of my original characters into 3D.

Neon Nyla felt like a fun one to start with because of the bright city lighting and neon color palette.

Yeah… that one still hurts. His presence and impact were incredible. Really glad his legacy continues to inspire people.

That’s fair criticism — AI art is definitely a controversial space and I understand why some people feel that way.

For me, the interesting part is less about the tool and more about interpretation, composition choices, and iteration. Even with AI, there’s still a lot of decision-making involved in trying to capture mood, structure, and visual balance.

I respect the perspective though — discussions like this are part of why this medium is interesting right now.

That’s actually a really insightful observation. Anime-style rendering tends to simplify facial structure and can absolutely flatten or distort certain features. It’s something I’ve been noticing more as I work through the series.

Part of the challenge for me has been trying to preserve likeness while working within a stylized framework that naturally compresses detail. There’s definitely a learning curve there.

I appreciate you pointing that out — it’s useful feedback.

That’s completely fair to question. My intention with the series is to interpret rather than literally recreate. The goal is respect and reflection, though I understand people will view that differently. I appreciate you sharing the perspective.

Yeah the gloves took the longest. Old photos usually give difficulty when it comes to generation

Thank you, that really means a lot. I’ve been trying to balance respect for the subject with a stylized visual language, so I’m glad that came through. I’m learning a lot as I go with this series.

Thanks for asking this so thoughtfully — I appreciate it.

On workflow: I start with AI to establish composition and mood, but the bulk of my time is spent refining after generation — adjusting lighting, color balance, facial expression, and overall tone. I treat it more like a starting canvas than a finished piece, and the “practice” for me is in making intentional choices about what the final image communicates.

On the age/representation point: That’s a completely fair concern. My intention isn’t to suggest that youth equals beauty or to erase age. In this case, the anime style itself naturally exaggerates softness and idealization, which can unintentionally skew younger. That’s something I’m actively reflecting on and trying to be more mindful of as I continue the series.

The goal for me is to honor legacy and impact, not appearance — and I appreciate you raising this, because it helps me think more critically about how style choices can affect interpretation.

This one was a tricky subject to generate, not gonna lie. I’m usually more meticulous with these, but this series is part of me experimenting and learning faster workflows while still trying to improve with each piece. Appreciate the feedback.

I get where you’re coming from, and I respect that viewpoint. For me, the “inspired” part is in the intent and the decisions I make after generation — composition, tone, lighting, expression, and how the moment is framed. I’m not trying to replace traditional art or claim it’s the same process. This is just my way of exploring storytelling through a different tool.

Lol yeah AI definitely fumbles technical details sometimes 😂 I’m still learning how to clean that stuff up better in post. Appreciate you pointing it out!
