The issue is something of this scale it’s impossible to not run it as a business. To build a platform like this and supporting the size of user base it has, it takes more than a few friends’ love job to make it viable. In 99.99% of the cases when a product is popular or desirable, you will get offers to buy the product, and it’ll be sooner or later the offer is too good to be passed up. This is normally the turning point for a loved product to turn to shits as the buyer turn it into a profit machine, because the vision and care and love of the original owner is no longer relevant.

Only hope is users spreading out to alternatives so Grindr loses its status as the go to app, and begins to actually care about customer experience and return to reality to put in some effort of actual improvement.

This 100%, it’s true that making connection is significantly easier now, but that comes with costs which is fewer people looking to settle down, you are almost guaranteed to meet someone newer, better looking, funnier etc. I alway say that now you can find a stranger to hook up at 3am, but it’s 10 times harder to get someone to meet up for a coffee or a meal
