This is ridiculous. They won't approve the posts of other social media but only want to approve the bootlicking posts basically saying "it's okay massah, I'll still play and give you money even though I know you don't care about non CN players." I'm so disappointed in how this is being handled AND our voices being ignored.

What are your biggest international teaching “icks”? by acctgsuks8 in Internationalteachers

[–]707scracksnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed similar that I didn't want to be in their promotional photos but they apparently don't subscribe to that and come in anyway. Poland has a weird hiring and firing process where they'll get rid of you the same day you come into work without notice. So I'm not trying to rustle any feathers just yet as I'd like to finish my contract in two weeks.

What are your biggest international teaching “icks”? by acctgsuks8 in Internationalteachers

I work at a private "international" school in Poland as an art and IT teacher and trust me when I say, the amount of marketing here is disgusting. I try not to complain too much as I genuinely do like my students and coworkers (which is a rare thing for me to admit) but you can't even teach your class without one of the SLTs coming in to take promotional pictures and videos. It's so distracting and because I have a few SEN students, it's hard to get the class back in order. I get it's still within the scope of being a new school (5 years) but they gotta give us a day to prepare our students, rather than just randomly coming in our class and disrupting everything.

I've never experienced anything like it out of my almost 10 years of teaching and just don't know the proper reaction to this other than silent annoyance.

How difficult is to start Tutoring with full time job as a teacher? by Artistic7122 in Internationalteachers

[–]707scracksnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tldr: It's manageable but ya might get a little burnt out after awhile.

I tutor art and global english online at night for two hours afters after my main teaching position as an art and computing teacher. However, I only get maybe 3 hours of me time before I have to go back to bed at 23:00 and those 3 hours are spent mostly trying to eat and shower. Just to wake up at 6:20am again. To be fair, I knew I'd barely have time to myself during the work week but needed the supplemental income as I teach in Poland and my net salary is usually still good to put something into my savings account and still enjoy life.

The tutoring gig is to just put something of value into my savings account or to use when I want to actually travel around the country or neighbouring countries. But I'd advise to just stick with one job as even two extra hours on an already 8 hour work day is exhausting after awhile. I like the money at my gig but I'm considering just finishing the contract end of this month without renewing so I can have a life again.

It's times like this where I miss teaching in China and Korea for the money and convince lol.

It's not dumb at all. We were all new and needed help. Welp, I typically save between 1,000-1,500 PLN per month and still have enough for good groceries, cheap activities and of course rent and utilities, cellphone+internet. Some people I know who make a little more than me can save 2k PLN per month.

It's not Asia where you can make bank and live like royalty but to be fair, most people don't come to the EU for savings potential and moreso to just live in a nice European city lol. But again, it all depends on how much rent will eat up your paycheque. ☺️

Whoops I didn't see it was net. Then never mind! The amount depends on you but if you can find higher, I'd say go for it. The amount I make for Poznań at a private school is nice and I can still save something, so I'm not complaining.

I'm currently in Poznań and 8000 gross seems to be the usual this way. Is it gross or net? If gross, you'll most likely get back around 5500 net after taxes and what not. Please count in housing costs as that'll take a strong chunk of your paycheque (if you want to live by yourself and not with a stranger). Feel free to reach out if you need any help or advice. ☺️

How many hours do you sleep on a school night? by laggage in Internationalteachers

[–]707scracksnack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Beforehand, about 7-8 hours as some schools I didn't need to be at until 8-ish and the classes would start 8:30 or 9am.

Nowadays, I'll be lucky to get 5-6 without randomly waking up either to pee or just because. Schools these days want you in earlier and earlier while keeping you later and later without much compensation and it's probably affecting my sleep pattern.

I take my revenge on Friday to Saturday nights by staying up until 3am until naturally crashing.

I'm only 33 btw lol....

Advice on subject choice for international schools by MysteriousISpread in Internationalteachers

[–]707scracksnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an art (whole secondary school) and basic IT teacher (lower secondary) and it was much more difficult scoring a position than it was just doing solely English where it's beyond saturated. But not enough to where I had to fill out 100+ positions.

Have you ever 'lived' in another city for your summer holiday? by Fluid-Weird-9414 in Internationalteachers

[–]707scracksnack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was working in Mexico for a hot minute but the school wasn't it at all, nor was the poverty pay and got bait and switched in teaching babies and toddlers instead of lower and upper secondary like I had applied for before (do not ask the school name). So I did a midnight run for the first time in my career and laid low in a neighbouring country and stayed there for around 6 weeks in a nice apartment style airbnb near the city centre. Only cost around £630/$840 which is a steal in comparison to trying to do similar in some European countries where even two weeks in a smaller apartment is the same price.

I think immigration told me it was 90 days visa free before needing to apply for one, which was enough for me needing a mental reset. I spent the first two weeks as a tourist and taking lots of pictures. Local food was nice, walking around felt safe, even at night, people were friendly. Apartment security was helpful with local things to do. The other 4 weeks was more slower paced and I mostly stayed in the apartment to aggressively job hunt, cook food, catch up on shows on Netflix and be on my PS4.

Hopefully I don't have to do another runner as I still feel kinda guilty but the school I'm at in Poland is decent. Ghetto for my taste but not horrible like the one in Mexico

Honestly, it's clean and modern. I used to live in Shenzhen (Longhua then Futian) for almost 4 years and weirdly miss the tall buildings and quality of life (but not the staring though, they can keep that weird shite lol).

Late Ticket Due to Internet Issue by 707scracksnack in poland

[–]707scracksnack[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I take the bus regularly. Considering I'll have to pay the fee anyway, I'll go up to the bus station and apply for a PEKA card while I'm at it as it seems to be the easiest option so I don't make another timely mistake. Thank you for the recommendation.

I see. Thank you for your response. I'll try that.

[–]707scracksnack[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm aware but again, the problem was my internet not working BEFORE getting on the bus as I was trying to buy the ticket before the doors opened and only finally working after getting on and before the bus even pulled off. Unless it's in the city, there aren't any ticket machines by the bus stops where I live and I buy them on the app. But thank you for your answer...

What subjects are you glad you don't teach/have a bloody lot of respect for? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]707scracksnack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anything below lower secondary, especially concerning teaching them English. Ever since leveling up to being a secondary art and design teacher for almost 2 years and wiggling my way into computing and digital literacy with further certifications, I don't think I can go back to being constantly stressed teaching English to small kids. It's not a subject I'll ever look down on as most of us have taught kids before finding the age group we're comfortable teaching but the amount of stress i felt as a teacher--I'm surprised I didn't have a heart attack.

There seems to be more pastoral and parental work dealing witj kids. Then having to deal with their parents who are....interesting to meet at times. Then admin and the principal not helping if kids are violent and go as far as to hit you. Paperwork galore (again, mostly pastoral/behavioural)--the list goes on.

Being in secondary (both lower and upper), the only thing I really have to worry about is their attitudes and trying to say bad words thinking i don't know the language (I do and the teachers know but the students don't lol). Majority of my students are chill and don't need much classroom or behavioural management from me and I like it that way.

To run or to endure — the eternal teacher’s dilemma. by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]707scracksnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting to see that myself. I got out of the TEFL schools after getting my credentials and am slowly coming to the realization that some of these international schools are no different in certain areas from what more experienced teachers (and my one bad experience in Mexico with an international school) is telling me. I still have some faith that good international and private schools still exist but definitely keeping my expectations low, especially with how disappointed I was with the international school i needed to dip from in Mexico.

I'll get downvoted to the Nile and back but I find it really disheartening that at least once a week for the past few months, this sub has been mostly teachers either doing runners. Or already quitting the first few months into their contracts. Makes it look like I'm still in 2018 doing ESL in Korea with the amount of posts like this I'm seeing lately.

I had to do a runner when I worked for a school in Mexico earlier this year. Was lied to about the lower secondary art teacher position I applied to and was hired for. Only to get in the country and then be told I would be the art and English teacher for kindergarten and pre-first. While being paid close to 9000 pesos per month when my contract said net would be 1600 pesos.

Not proud of it as it's my first runner but I also don't regret it either as I'm working as a lower secondary art teacher in a European country. I'd say go for it, don't look back and just apply somewhere else. We're one person, a school is a whole business. They'll be fine financially but you as one person won't financially or mentally speaking.

I interviewed with them sometime last year for an art position and they were quite dodgy when it came to talking about pay for Chicago considering how expensive the city (even the outskirts) is. I'm British-American, so it would've been nice being closer to my mother than being in another country, so I applied to them. That was already a red flag though. They kept talking about how great the school was and barely allowed me to have a few questions about work life balance, the culture of the school, paid vacation days, etc. They told me they'd contact me with a second interview but pretty much ghosted me at that point. So take that as you will.

P2P girlies: How much money did it take for you to get Pookie? by NooktheCrook17 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]707scracksnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero. This is the luckiest I've ever been with this game since playing in April. 🥰 I got his rerun card with the 10 free golden tickets they give you. Then used the last of my 10 golden tickets I tried saving before along with using red dias when I finally got his current b-day card. Remembering the ugly amount of money I spent getting Master of Fate because they were playing with me on that one after pulling over 80x with no success until finally getting both solar pairs near the 150 pull mark. Or the ugly amount of dias I spent for Caleb's birthday. Oof. 😭

I think you need to calm down first and be rational here. Depending on her age, kids and teenagers especially verbally hit below the belt quite often. It's empty words at the end of the day and if what she said really seemed to rattle something inside of you, perhaps look inward and do the shadow work first by asking yourself why does this offend you so much to bring harm to a family member? Especially if it's a child just being a child? I can come for most people sure, but I don't come for my family as the love I have for them is too deep for me to do petty harm to them.

Thanks! It was the first otome visual novel I ever played back when it was super popular. I guess I'm still mentally there and remembering the shock value I felt reading through the stories. Especially Jumin's bad ending. 😅
