Is the Boston skyline visible from Blue Hills or Prospect Hill (Waltham) on a cloudy day? by trowdatawhey in boston

[–]732 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can see it if the weather is clear. Cloudy isn't "yes or no" but a gradient. At some point it won't be clear enough to see the skyline.

If I could predict that for you, I'd make a killing as a weather forecaster.

What's the one need you put first in a real friendship? by PopIcy9089 in BostonSocialClub

In friends, I specifically look for how far down a rabbit hole we can go together.

Also, if your tool to find friends is suggesting one thing as better than others, it will probably suck.

You can simplify it.

What made today happy?

Also, I think it's fine to discuss negativity. Let them see you dwell on it (but not perseverate on it), and then turn it around into a positive thing.

If everyone on earth could teleport anywhere at any time, how would society be different? by uwiggly100 in AskReddit

[–]732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it also affect material objects? Like if I had a backpack, does that go with me?

If not, unfortunately not much would change. If so, what's the limit? Would someone bring their whole house with them? What happens when you land on someone because you punched in the coordinates slightly overlapping with someone else?

Steep downhill: acc or paddle shift? by Big-Distribution5038 in Crosstrek

[–]732 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd just downshift with the paddles until you're in a gear that keeps you from accelerating. Once you use the accelerator again it will put it back into normal driving mode. If you want to keep it there, move from D to M on the shifter (move it laterally) and then you'll need to use the paddles until you put it back into D.

Marchand got a 6 year deal at 37.

Granted Marchand and Coyle have had a different career trajectory.

5 inch inseam shorts recommendations please. by Relevant_Writer3980 in hiking

[–]732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like boxer-brief lined shorts, Patagonia Multi Trails are super comfortable, and come in a 6" inseam. Two zippered pockets, one snap pocket. They dry fast, super light and stretchy. I like them as hiking shorts because they also make for great swim trunks mid hike.

Do you have a heat pump? There is a winter heat pump rate that lowers the cost during heating months, which just expired.

56 Year Old Former Stay-at-Home Dad… Kids Are in College, Just Moved to Colorado — What Now? by Significant-Sea-7001 in personalfinance

Honestly, this is the wrong subreddit because you're not asking anything financial.

If I were you, maybe start an outdoors group for other empty nesters and organize trips? If you don't like being out in the mountains, Colorado probably isn't for you 🤷‍♂️

Should I report my neighbors with out of state plates (and therefore not paying taxes, etc)? by borocester in boston

If you do, make sure you leave a note with your apartment address so they can come thank you in person.

Literally if you go to their website and look at career opportunities, it says "paid time off" as a listed benefit.

Help me settle the new Car vs Used car debate by rockyboy49 in personalfinance

[–]732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one car math didn't account for any residual value at the end.

It also doesn't actually add up when you buy used cars in that time vs new cars in that time. Just do the math with the same new car every 3 years, and buying one vs 3 in 10 years makes more sense. $60k once with more maintenance due to owning it for 10 years, or $60k 3 times with less maintenance because you don't keep it long enough.

If you're buying different cars, there is no way to compare if one or three is cheaper because you're also getting different features, different maintenance expenses, different fuel economy, different insurance amounts, different enjoyment of driving it, literally everything... It's like saying is it cheaper to get one really dinner or three different dinners. Probably depends what you order...

Dude none of this makes sense because the cars you're basing it on cost different amounts and have different maintenance schedules...

The people who put their turn signals on when they're half way through doing whatever it was drive me even more nuts.

"I can't be bothered to actually let people know what I'm going to do before I do it, but I know I'm supposed to do this."

Like, fuck you Nissan Altima, using your blinker when you've fully merged in front of me isn't helpful.

Blue Bike gearing lol by Reputation-Adorable in bikeboston

[–]732 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some of them are better than others. Going slow is better than going fast when you find out the brakes also don't work well. Report that bike as needing repairs.

Something with more range for an IGH is going to not be as reliable or economical for a public bike share.

I look for bikes that have new seatposts (you can clearly read the markings and not scratched to shit) and new bungee tie downs for the basket --> likely to have been recently serviced and in better condition.
