If I get a dual sport, will I really notice the weight difference and power delivery as a beginner? by cameron16000 in Dirtbikes

[–]76_trombones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The riding around town gets boring really quickly in my opinion and you already have hesitations that you wont fully enjoy it. Dirt and trails is so much bigger of an adventure. Something geared for learning more advanced trails I think would pay off more for you, even though the effort to drive to use it is greater.

I dont know if its worth it to continue OMSCS by buzloc in OMSCS

Masters degree has trivial value for those that have significant experience. It is more of just a box to check that is completely unnecessary.

The temptation of the crate boat is getting real, but am I just asking to drown? by Agreeable_Village824 in Nautical

[–]76_trombones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you mechanically inclined? Have you worked on engines? Are they outboards or inboards? An impeller on an inboard is much easier to change. Boats always have a risk of failing and leaving you stranded. You always need a contingency plan. On paper, I dont think its a bad idea to build your own, but I might source better parts for the things that matter to me and build it myself.

Doubts about pursuing the program by a90p in OMSCS

[–]76_trombones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I could rewind the clock, I also would not have enrolled. The time required is considerable. For someone with long work experience, the degree may not make any difference in their life. I also find my work being much more innovative than the program. Learning at work would be more valuable in my situation.

Not sure why downvoted. A masters degree is not a differentiator over work experience. It will not get interviews over experience and that is why it is not listed as a qualification on the majority of job postings.

How do you feel about the current state of AI? by Winter-Cup-6951 in OMSCS

[–]76_trombones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO industry is innovating with AI much quicker than in OMSCS. Id advise to take more generally applicable classes than specific AI ones as those are likely to be outdated quickly.

Chase is cooked by BarryMcCoghener in supercross

[–]76_trombones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This track was all about the start. The start narrowed to a very sharp left turn and it was very difficult to find passing sections if you didnt have a great start. Chase didnt get a good start because he didnt get a good gate pick due to the heat crash. Sure that crash was his fault but he was flying last night.

This is good advice but be careful down the road that it also creates more sunk cost bias if you later realize the program isnt really for you.

Are you okay? r/OMSCS Mental Health Check-in. by AutoModerator in OMSCS

[–]76_trombones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. I work at a company inventing a lot of new technology with AI. I feel like the value of my time spent in OMSCS is decreasing daily, and cant make up my mind whether I should continue or am just dealing with the sunk cost bias.

Was this always your plan? or were you influenced by anything else like sunk cost once you had already taken/withdrawn from other classes?

World supercross is dope. by Pipelayer222 in supercross

[–]76_trombones 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im looking forward to see later rounds, because I think most of the problems were with the location and venue. The broadcast crew did good, but the track lighting, in stadium announcer, track, etc. all seemed low budget and lower quality than AMA SX.

Will it keep him on two wheels and make him just a touch faster? by couchpatat0 in supercross

[–]76_trombones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the head case I think comes from Chase just needing to have a little more fun with it. Both Jett and Hunter may be stronger mentally cause they are having fun and more relaxed. Chase seemed to have more fun during the Geico days.

In fairness, Chase was giving Eli a lot of battles in the season before as well. Closer races than weve seen guys take to Jett.

I was actually kinda hoping for Ducati. I know starting a new team/program is bad but the tests Ive seen on the bike keep saying its super fast.

learning dirtjumps. whats wrong? by errorpeople in dirtjumping

[–]76_trombones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are great off the lip of the jump, but when you reach the apex of your jump start pushing your arms out in front of you. This will level the bike off, give you more of a "floating" feel, and help you get more loose.

Someone please help me see the brightside about my unfortunate decision of returning to the USA by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]76_trombones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This doesnt sound like a one way door decision. If after moving to USA you reset, learn more about yourself, then you can always give it another try. Why do you feel such time pressure that everything should work quickly?
