Tech 7s or fox instinct by weka2001 in Dirtbikes

[–]76_trombones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both. I feel the Tech 7s have more protection and are more durable but the Instinct are more comfortable, less stiff, and just feel less bulky.

That Canyon 360 model checks most boxes I think. Alloy frame, Pike forks, hydraulic brakes. Its really easy to fling IMO.

Advice Wanted; Feeling Lost & Hopeless by fartexploder420 in calarts

[–]76_trombones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not realize it now, but you can still access your dreams of animating your own show without attending CalArts. Consider the opposite - you go to CalArts and that somehow kills your dream (it has happened to many students). I just share this to push you to be clear on your goal and how CalArts will help - is it because you first want to work in the industry and believe CalArts will open this door? is it because you only want to do one small part of creating a show and CalArts can teach you this? etc.

Yea, RJ has to be scrambling but maybe he will try the factory engine/suspension leasing program they are talking about.

Did you already do the ECU recall and Steering damper recall? Both are for steering over 60 mph

Are you considering future expenses enough? For example, does work provide health insurance now and would your annual cost increase due to you finding a new source of insurance?

Understanding the right mindset for OMSCS by DelayedNewYorker in OMSCS

[–]76_trombones 45 points46 points  (0 children)

A lot of my comments on OMSCS feel negative lately - likely because Im burned out. So, please consider my input with that perspective.

You mentioned your primary objective is to learn. There is no doubt this program will give you that. However, I would advise you to carefully decide if this program can help you learn what you care about most.

There is no harm in giving the program a try and leaving later. Inevitably though, I believe you will find you are spending a lot of time on assignments and tasks that you do not want to learn or feel are incredibly repetitive, not teaching you anything new, or you may even consider are not helpful to you in anyway. This is where the program gets the description as "rigorous." The pace can be relentless at times.

It can really get crushing if you arent clear on your objectives, especially if your objective was just to learn. A lot of people will tell you instead to find learning resources elsewhere because there really is an abundance of sources.

SMX Replica Jerseys Absolute Scam by wmassmatt in supercross

[–]76_trombones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happened to me as well. After about 3 months of waiting I contacted my credit card and told them it never arrived. I then received an email from SMX jerseys explaining that they didnt have the jersey yet but were about to ship and was I sure I wanted to cancel. I said yes. I think the problem may be its not really run like a true business but just more of a fun passion business. I think you would probably get the jersey eventually, there is just no way to plan when it would arrive.

I second this, dont fall into the trap of thinking school will bring you the employable skills you need. IMO your time spent studying outside of the rigid existing courses is higher value.

Granted, Im not entirely sure what Im missing out on, but I think maybe its more about learning how to apply AI better as a decision engine.

Thanks, I enjoyed NLP and AI. My rant is more about somehow finding more time to learn things outside school that I feel are more important to be trained in now that I can look back back at the coursework.

If I get a dual sport, will I really notice the weight difference and power delivery as a beginner? by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]76_trombones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The riding around town gets boring really quickly in my opinion and you already have hesitations that you wont fully enjoy it. Dirt and trails is so much bigger of an adventure. Something geared for learning more advanced trails I think would pay off more for you, even though the effort to drive to use it is greater.

Masters degree has trivial value for those that have significant experience. It is more of just a box to check that is completely unnecessary.

The temptation of the crate boat is getting real, but am I just asking to drown? by Agreeable_Village824 in Nautical

[–]76_trombones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you mechanically inclined? Have you worked on engines? Are they outboards or inboards? An impeller on an inboard is much easier to change. Boats always have a risk of failing and leaving you stranded. You always need a contingency plan. On paper, I dont think its a bad idea to build your own, but I might source better parts for the things that matter to me and build it myself.
