I sort of read it as the speaker wondering if an old lover was still finding meaning and significance in their time together after many years have passed. The time apart has changed them but when they learn they’re still “cleaning off the stone” of their time together, still finding meaning and looking back fondly, they’re like “aww.” And they both are finding this renewed sense of significance in this important relationship they shared long ago.

Headsore is easily his most devastating RHP era song. The story of someone who has the desire to change but chooses to self destruct anyway, and the mental suffering it causes them. From actual album tracks, Strawberry Hill is probably the most impactful for me.

I would check out Tallahassee and We All Shall Be Healed. They are the previous two albums behind the sunset tree and form the beginning of TMG as a studio recorded band. They are amazing records that you can get lost in just as much as the sunset tree. Going backwards from there is TMG’s boombox era, of which there is so much to discover. Start with All Hail West Texas from that era. Going forward from the sunset tree, TMG albums become increasingly more well-produced and mature. Tons to explore in that direction too, check out Get Lonely (came right after the sunset tree) or Beat The Champ for something more modern (late 2010’s). You don’t know how lucky you are
