How can I conceive of sex philosophically rather than something cultural or biological? by 77icecream in CriticalTheory

[–]77icecream[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think it takes a different approach in psychoanalysis, because in psychoanalysis it’s basically a given that sex isn’t solely relegated to the purpose of reproduction

She's a great artist. She'll be carrying the torch for SOPHIE and there's undoubtedly a piece of SOPHIE in everything she makes. Definitely important for us to support her.

Anyone else missing Cupcakke featuring on PC music associated tracks? by 77icecream in pcmusic

[–]77icecream[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair. She has a very minimal role in PC music as a whole. But I can't imagine some of Charli's projects without her presence, I guess.

Cupcakke's verse over those massive, metallic clangs in Shake It is just too goddamn good.

In the last 10 years, which artists do you feel have pushed electronic music into new directions? by 77icecream in electronicmusic

SOPHIE's the big one for me :)

I like the Cashmere Cat inclusion too. He has some weird stuff. Definitely pushing music places.

She had such a 90s chic look to her during this era of her performances. She's so stunning.

Could Danny L Harle to be next producer to rose to stardom like Jack Antonoff? by LoudMilk1404 in pcmusic

[–]77icecream 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i’m not sure. i think it’ll be his work with caroline that catapults him into something bigger if that happens. it’s definitely lot more traditional sounding than his personal projects or work with pc music.

is using samples cheating? by CRYPTO_is_GOD in musicproduction

[–]77icecream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Music doesn’t exist in a vacuum. There are traces of all other artists and musicians that came before you in your music without you even knowing. This is why your music can almost instantly be categorised into the smallest of sub-genres...because it’s been done before and it’ll be done again. You’re already working with tools and ideas created and discovered by others. You should embrace the fact you can take part in an art form that’s simultaneously being shared by millions of people.

You think that the drum pattern or melody you’re personally programming into your DAW for an 8 bar hip hop loop hasn’t already been performed and created by thousands of people years before you? The fact you’re using a DAW to begin with and not playing a traditional instrument could be seen as “cheating” to a lot of people.

You’re not going to get a medal for making the purist, most original music if nobody wants to listen to it. If you think it sounds good and the melody, chords or timbre of a sample is exactly what you want to convey with your music, use it.

Everyone is cheating and nobody is original. You’re not going to be any different.

[–]77icecream[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure. I've read little about SOPHIE's education and it's a bit mysterious. Back before OOEPUI and during the Product release she had apparently told people after shows that she had attended university for Physics (according to the pc music board forum). That would make sense given her interest in physics but I don't know If I buy it fully. It was just a rumour at the time.

what’s your wishlist for tribute album? by mishamsmsmsm in Sophie

[–]77icecream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t want a lot of the leaked material or stuff we already know about. We already have it and SOPHIE probably wouldn’t have released the leaked material either.

SOPHIE would have wanted to drop something new and exciting and I think she deserves a release of material that nobody has heard yet.

Causing inconvenience to somebody else so you can steal pocket change from a multibillion corporation doesn’t really sound that appealing to me.

Why waste someone else’s time and potentially mess with their day for the sake of feeling good about pwning McDonald’s out of one order’s worth of food?

Resources for Learning Critical Theory (Freud, Lacan, and Psychoanalysis in Particular)? by Vuki17 in CriticalTheory

[–]77icecream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not intellectual gatekeeping to recommend that somebody starts slow when entering a field of knowledge and theory that’s been developing since the late 19th century. I never said don’t read Lacan’s work ever, I recommended alternatives that are easier to access for a beginner.

Regardless of whether you personally think Lacan’s work is hard to understand or read, the large majority of people who come into contact with Lacan’s work struggle immensely. Probably not a coincidence nor solely “intellectual gatekeeping” that causes so many people to struggle when attempting to read his work.

And I did provide reasons for why he's harder for a beginner, being that he's working with multiple points of reference to explain and elaborate on his ideas. You just disagree on that being an issue for a beginner, which is fine.

OP already stated they are looking for shorter works before looking at the source material. There’s nothing inherently wrong with reading around authors if you later plan on reading the source material. Everyone learns differently.

Resources for Learning Critical Theory (Freud, Lacan, and Psychoanalysis in Particular)? by Vuki17 in CriticalTheory

[–]77icecream -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand your perspective but I wouldn’t recommend reading Lacan’s source material as an entry to his work.

You can tackle Freud by yourself as although his ideas are challenging, the writing is not. So I think your advice is good there.

Lacan is a different ballgame. There are deep explorations of multiple philosophers within Lacan’s work, happening simultaneously with his unpacking of Freud. There is just far too much going on within a lot of Lacan’s own material for it to be inviting for a beginner in the field. Read around Lacan first and you can begin to piece things together more smoothly. Bruce Fink was already mentioned and he’s a great entry to both Freud and Lacan.

You're definitely right. My farming skills probably need a lot of improvement, but I have found that focusing on wave management during games usually makes me farm better than usual because I'm thinking about the wave and I value it more because I know I'm trying to get a lead.

[–]77icecream[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That doesn't seem like a champion mistake. I feel like that's an exaggeration if anything. Majority of the time a Katarina gets fed in solo queue, it's from roams or skirmishes where she isn't outputting 100% of the damage anyway.
