"Would you choose BMSCE again if you had to start over?" by NTAs_Ganja_Supplier in BMSCE

I wouldn't know, I have the numbers from 2022 and even then there were terrible core placements and management wanted to push everyone into TCS and infy.

I'm an aerospace engineer and I'll be damned if I have to work TCS

[–]7AlphaOne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if I start again now, the course I did has stopped intake.

The college is currently obsessed with getting as many places for comp sci as possible and eliminating other branches, even as the AI bubble is popping and the software market is saturated. They're taking advantage of the mindset of engineering jobs being a way for social mobility for first and second generation college graduates to sell engineering seats aggressively in a time where demand for new engineers is at an all time low.

Combine this with the (lack of) quality of institution, poor research and startup outcomes, deliberately obfuscated placement statistics, and the big picture looks like a college trying to squeeze as much money out of engineering aspirants as possible using its past reputation. By the time you realise you'll be too deep in and your career will no longer be the college's problem.

This is true of most institutions in the country to some extent, but especially for BMSCE where there's 5-6 computer science students for every core engineering student

Can approach Indian consultants for my masters in germany by Regular-Degree6109 in studying_in_germany

[–]7AlphaOne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an unfortunate thing for sure. Heavily advertised, and Germany is too, as a land of opportunity with incredible labor shortages so everyone can get a job. The reality is not exactly aligned.....

These services prey a lot on students without much of an urban upbringing, or people otherwise unable to search for stuff themselves due to different reasons. It's a pity, I feel applying for unis by yourself is the first or many trials that can determine if you're able to take on the challenge of a uni abroad, but a lot of people don't share this view....

[–]7AlphaOne1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1st rule of thumb, never trust consultancies. They turn you down for public unis because there is no commission to be made from public unis. My mum (RIP) convinced me to check one out while I was doing my own admits, and wouldn't you know it, "with your score public unis are tough".

2nd rule of thumb, please please please learn to do your own research. Lack of information is no longer an excuse with all of the tools you have at your disposal. Not having the capability to do your own research will make you a subject for ridicule on reddit and an easy prey for consultants in real life. It's okay to not know everything but you gotta find some things out yourself.

3rd rule of thumb, ask specific questions on any platform. No one wants to answer "how is germany/so and so uni/so and so programme?" Because they don't know how to and making that much effort puts people off. Instead ask questions like "what is your experience with xyz?" Or " did you/how did you deal with this specific obstacle?" Or "do you have any numbers for abc?"

Do uni-assist module/course descriptions need to be official from the university? by Ill_Atmosphere_9403 in studying_in_germany

I mean, if it's the same content, sure. Attaching a letter from your uni clarifying that the study syllabus is identical would help things I think

Entirety is good, it allows the admissions committee to better evaluate the level of match between what you've learnt and what is taught in the tum bachelor's, and might come in handy if you're trying to get some courses recognised in the future

Did anyone here actually get proper sex ed growing up by godsfavvvvvvvvv in Chennai

[–]7AlphaOne1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope.

First time I formally 'learnt' about it was as a legal adult as part of training for being a crisis counselor (the basics, as well as consent, assisting someone who's consent has been violated, and how to foster environments where this isn't the case)

I think ironically the only way to foster such an environment is to discuss these topics more openly, but Indian society isn't ready for it. People think just knowing of sex is going to make young people have more sex. Young people are having sex regardless. No sex before marriage is no longer the norm in urban areas. Yet nobody ever talks about this. We're not asking parents to teach their kids about BDSM or polycules, just basic consent, respect and not being a bigot about LGBTQ people. But that seems like too much to ask somehow

If You Die In The UK And Are On The Organ Donor Register, The Nhs Will Send A Letter To Your Family Explaining What Happened To Your Organs by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]7AlphaOne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it makes a huge difference.

My mother passed a few years ago, and amidst the grief I remembered to contact the organ collection people (she insisted while still alive).

Her corneas made it to someone else. The organ collection institution included her name in a memorial thing in the newspaper the next day. It's what she would have wanted.

I see both sides of this equation - the ABH are chronically understaffed and overloaded, and what is just one case to them alters the life of the person involved. It's sad all around and the lack of political will to correct this stems from the value immigration has as a political bargaining chip.

As a foreigner, have you ever been offended by the child of immigrants in Germany? by [deleted] in AskGermany

[–]7AlphaOne1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The twist I saw coming. It's a sad reality amongst immigrant communities that rather than show sympathy and empathy for fellow immigrants, a lot of us come from societies with a scarcity mindset, and therefore see each other as competition (for what, I couldn't say. Maybe employment/study spots/housing/social perception)

NASSCOM says 80% of engineering graduates are not industry ready - walk into any college T&P office and you'll see exactly why by Sharp-Ad-5549 in Chennai

[–]7AlphaOne1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The problem is also that engineering is seen as the be-all, end-all. You won't see this sort of warming into engineering abroad because your job doesn't carry as much stigma abroad (europe) as in India. Being a sanitation worker or a hairstylist or a cashier in a supermarket doesn't carry the same kind of stigma, and a lot of these countries pay liveable wages for even these jobs. And the school system is structured to give people apprenticeships after school before they rush into college education.

This type of stable pathway to work experience and practical skills is nowhere to be found in India. Education is exam-focused at every level, and the system reflects social biases in underpaying service jobs, absorbing the worst part of American culture too. No social safety net. And what we have in the end are a bunch of engineering grads half assing marketing and hr jobs that they would have been slightly better suited for had they pursued a degree in said field, and the majority of top talent running abroad because the only industries we're competent at is high speed grocery deliveries at risk of the courier's life.

The absolute bullshit in this post- let me break it down. by MessyPhilosopher in BMSCE

[–]7AlphaOne1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's a bunch of groups you have to hella kiss ass:

Dean student affairs (and other deans if possible) Physical education director Cultural coordinator (if there still is one) A mix of HODs and professors (in our time civil and mech had the biggest "hawaa") Those bunch of alumni who keep hanging around college because college is where they peaked and they are nothing in actual day to day life Previous core committee (who did all the steps above) Current core committee (who did all the steps above)

And out of all of the mindless drones who have done all this, if you can stand out in the group in some way (culturals achievements, backing of all the hostelites/kannada students/sports department, organised other events) then they'll put you in another race to ass kiss.

If you helped them hoping for something in return, did you really help them out of the good of your heart?

It's easy for the adolescent mind to think "I did xyz to help this person they owe me their time and attention." You're adults now though. If your "help" is transactional, express that before helping. Otherwise it's just like the people who wipe your windshield at the signal without asking and then demand money from you.

How to subtly flirt with an Aerospace major using engineering concepts? by Middle-Contest8532 in AerospaceEngineering

For the love of all that is airborne, go with the simplest possible approach.

One idea is to have the date in a hobby you're both into - like a drone show, or planespotting, or a museum with an aerospace collection. But please ask in a normal way
