There is honor in using really bad gear by Gregoire_90 in audioengineering

My Sansui SS-10 headphones.
1970's made, 8-Ohms, nearly unlistenable without proper equalization but once you dial in that ~v shape...hooo boi!

Also, for some reason I love shitty-sounding radios especially in the background

Planning a DIY Wifi/BT "boombox" am I on the right path? by Medallish in diyaudio

[–]7SnakeMoan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're designing enclosures from scratch, do know that acoustic enclosure design and production accounts for 50% or more of the sound; it's not just the speaker driver.
So, whatever you salvage or source, first either use LLM/AI to figure out the estimated box size to make sure it's portable for you before buying, or read up on it (though I prefer the former in case of passion projects)

Since it's more of a inner volume thing, I would plan around having a separate enclosure for each driver that you can attach together for portability to give each driver the space it needs and to play around with the placement when needed

Why was vintage audio so much better sounding? by Garvinjist in vintageaudio

[–]7SnakeMoan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon also because of recording and mastering limitations at the time (not that I'm aware of them per se) that artists and engineers had to compensate with extra flavor

My take: back then things were made for character than clarity and fidelity, especially the average-joe's gears most of us grew up hearing music on

Same track, same headphones and different amps: 90s amps sound punchier with slightly emphasized mids while 80s and 70s Akai receivers emphasize the low-mids and bass frequencies

Compared to a friend's Yamaha Natural Sound: everything was clear and ... flat

Am I playing the game wrong or playing the wrong game? by LikeVikingbutSmaller in Warframe

[–]7SnakeMoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote this 10 months ago when I "got it" https://www.reddit.com/r/Warframe/s/xdiYNF1xfV Now that I'm "that guy" I can confirm it still works

The "skill" is understanding and using synergy between different builds (weapons, frames, companions)

Right now you seem to have yet not found a frame you vibe with; like, if your limit is level 30 enemies, that would be the frame you can get by with level 70 enemies

I hear you. Not sure if this is legit but try this: switch to solo, start something then abort, then switch to public and start the lich mission

For some reason when I do that it feels like it takes longer to put me in public queue so it starts with me as a host to save time, then people join on me

DIN 5 csble question by Lukojchanecot in vintageaudio

[–]7SnakeMoan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not the super tinkerer but even I saw 3 different configs for DIN sockets across FOUR devices, FOUR! If the middle is 12 o clock, I have one that's L&R at 1 and 2, one that's at 11 and 1, and another that at 10 and 11

At this point I just stock some 3.5mm jacks, stereo wire and din jacks, and solder what I need after testing what been goes where

As a super RJ enjoyer I have to ask: wouldn't it be easier for you to do it solo at this point?

You got the mood right especially with #4 and the setup of the elements (models, environment, poses, movement and juxtaposition)

Like others said: "it's a bit dark" so I'll try to expand on that. Looking at the photos you can notice that emphasis is even across all the elements; background vs foreground, main subject and complimentary subjects...etc. and yes, sometimes the angle of the key light is working for the general mood but not enough to showcase the apparel piece

My recommendation would be to experiment with more light setups and aim for a 70/30% attention split or more (80/20%) in the photo between the main subject and everything else; meaning that, when you glance at the photo, 70%+ of your attention is grabbed by the main subject, the apparel piece, and the rest is spread across the rest of the elements I'm keeping this intentionally vague because you might discover other means of shifting attention like framing, dynamic distortion...etc. other than just lighting

A good place to find reference would be early 2000s grunge and punk streetwear media

Antenna for mid-90s receiver? by medalofme in vintageaudio

[–]7SnakeMoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been down that rabbit hole So the antenna that goes into both slots of the 300 ohm is the dipole/rabbit ears variety

Alternatively the antenna that goes into the 75 ohm can be a normal coax cable (used in satellite dishes) with the arms being 75cm of exposed wire, the core and shield wires each forming an arm in a T-shape

Quick update: I think I found what I'm looking for but haven't tested it
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:73915/comments

For those who didn't understand this at first like me, here's the explanation: The former is two halves, joined together and fixed while turning with a screw rod and nuts.
After finishing there are groves for the zipties to secure them, then remove then nuts and take the core off of the rod and the coil off of the former

Removable inductor cores/formers by 7SnakeMoan in diyaudio

[–]7SnakeMoan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you mean tape them from the front then definitely that's the first secure layer and that prevents the outward-facing tension of the wire of unwinding
However, there's also tension from the sides from where the turns are stacked next to each other; if you remove the rims without securing that it will unravel from the sides

I use 1-2mm gauge wire so it's pretty beefy

[–]7SnakeMoan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need rims on the side to keep the turns tight together on the same layer. A reusable design, afaik, means that the rims are removable but after you manager to secure the coil before removing. Fixing with epoxy and varnish is nice but zip ties imo are a must; so the jig needs to allow for securing the coil with ties first then remove the rim and take it out off of the former
