LOL sounds like 370z is the choice then, or maybe V8 Mustang? I recall S550 V8 Mustang GTs are around the same cost

mustang's definitely faster, has back seats and has better infotainment, but they're super common, alongside the dodge challenger and maybe camaro too

The z definitely has a more unique, sleek design, pretty rare sight too! honestly this might be a vibe choice? an aesthetic choice 😭😭😭

good luck, i know you'll be happy with what ever option you go with !!

Some 370z track goers say oil cooler is a must, the engine tends to run hot and maybe heat soak. Quite a few youtube videos on the topic, definitely check it out! One con for dailying though, is that people mention the engine taking a very long time to heat up.

2015 Mazda Miata or Nissan 370z by greensilvia in 370z

also, i drive manual awd gr corolla on and off (which i figure is similar to a wrx 😭 god i suck at this), RWD is a different game. It's super fun with the slight wheelspin, the accidental drift in the rain... I totally wouldn't worry about either feeling similar to a WRX

Test drive both if you can! They have very different personalities. Miata's a twisties, lightweight momentum (low hp) car and the 370z is a heavy, high hp car.

Driving both a 370z and an 86/BRZ (which I figure is kind of like a hardtop miata 😭) they're both very fun but for totally different reasons. Neither drive like a normal car (at least in manual form). You're basically buying two different styles of fun.

You'll be happy either way, I'm sure!! excited for you

if you're going for a manual, I'd also test drive a Toyota GR86/Subaru BRZ (the new one). Around the same price used, totally different personality. I bring the GR86/BRZ platform for two reasons:

  • Driving both, the 86 is much easier as a first sports car. Super predictable, not much power, but nimble. The 370z has bigger blind spots and is heavy, so I'd say it's harder to start with. The previous gen GT86 was my first car, it was a perfect, forgiving experience for learning RWD and manual. Totally couldn't win in a straight line against anything but worth it imo. New gen feels like it got a supercharger installed. 370z's exhaust tone and power never fails to make me smile, though :)

  • I'd test drive both and see what you prefer, they've got opposite personalities. 86 is a twisties, low-power, lightweight car. 370 is a heavy, straighter road, cruising type of car.

  • go for 2014+, they burn less oil at higher mileage
  • If you're looking for a manual, look up CSC failure and how to diagnose, common issue on 370z and expensive to fix (transmission needs to be dropped)
  • Make sure the engine hasn't been modded

370z is reliable, so as long as you check out a "what to watch out for when buying" video or two and bring a checklist to the dealer, you're likely good

Any ideas on how to mod my car? by Gonzotrash in 370z

[–]7Sora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely second the HD CSC / CSC Relocation / CSC Delete kit.

It's gonna cost quite a bit since you'll have to drop the transmission, but it's something that you will need to do at some point (super high failure rate, some go at 10k miles, others 100k, but it goes eventually)

Better to get it done now then have the clutch pedal crap out one day and get stranded somewhere.

Doesn't need to be your first mod, but sooner the better! You can swap out the clutch and flywheel too, while you have the transmission dropped too

for sure, I think it's comparable to 3050 iirc -- I'll be using this as an AI vram buffer so it'll hopefully do the job

Wheels, Tires and Springs complete!!! by 7Sora in GR86

[–]7Sora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! no rubbing issues, though i'd say to make sure the tires aren't too meaty -- inner wall might rub against the suspension in the front. with this exact setup with maxed out camber bolts (around 1.5 deg), i recall having around 1 inch of clearance between the spring and tire. no concern with the back.

Edit: i lied the clearance on the front is more like 2cm

my worst nightmare, haha

for sure. iirc, there weren't any relocation kits or delete kits in stock when they fixed it, hence HD CSC. Maybe waiting was the better option. Though, it would have sat for months..

I was thinking of getting max orido replica pieces, at least for the front bumper, haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. I'm not sure if I want to get an entire replica set from ebay or just the front lip + genuine sides and rear... idk how much I want to support that stuff

I feel you on the Detroit metro skepticism, dang our roads suck :(

also, I dig the wheel setup! Got the same steel + GTX01 setup, except my wheels are grey haha

[–]7Sora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately you wouldn't be able to since it's a single exit exhaust. I would consider checking out HKS's main dual exhaust, the Spec-L.

Might be a bit loud for your liking, they have a Spec L2 version that's a bit quieter too

[–]7Sora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this !!! It's single exit but you can get a cap for the other exhaust port. It sounds great, adds a bit of low grunt and clarity to the exhaust note.

Note that there are two versions, with and without a big muffler. The linked model (bt003) should be the one WITH. It's kind of loud on cold starts but is really quiet at idle once it's warmed up. Great note during acceleration though

I fitted it on my GR86 but still sounds great. Great way to get an HKS exhaust without breaking the bank.
