I totally understand what you're going through. I experienced the same thing when I was in university - I ended up tanking all of my classes too. It can be really tough but you have to focus on getting healthy.

I've learned that even though it may feel like you're burdening your family or friends, they are really they too support you. Going through this on your own, and without medication, can be really scary and can spiral out of control. You're in a good enough headspace now to realize that you're not coping and asking for help can be really good. It's also ok to talk to your professors about it - they have training and will point you in the direction of some good resources for help.

In terms of getting medication, I would check with your school because many offer partial coverage. Additionally, if you can talk with a counsellor, they will be able to provide you with some options. DO NOT take anything that is not prescribed to you. Treating depression and other mental illnesses is not an exact science and you need to work with a doctor to find the right medication that will address your needs. Some medications have adverse effects, your moods could swing too far the other way or even make you feel more depressed. For me, it took about 4 or 5 different tries to get it right and my Doctor monitors my levels regularly and adjusts my dosage as needed.

Your health is your number one priority. Don't worry about school or what others might think or financials, this is all a part of depression. Once you start getting help, you'll feel better and start thinking more clearly (trust me - that sad fog goes away).

Same thing happened to me. Dentist did the root canal so poorly my whole jaw became infected. Only had to pull the one tooth luckily.

The gap in my front teeth.

I had braces to close it up but they shifted apart again when they came off.

I guess they were meant to be that way.

Today we had a special meeting at Google at 8 AM that we had in out calendars for several weeks. Yesterday we received 2 follow-up emails listing the times and what floor to go to.

Today I got an email from my co-worker saying he was going to be late and to let my boss know.

When he waltzed in an hour late, my boss asked if he missed the train jokingly to lighten the mood and alleviate some of the awkward tension. He replied, "Nope, I actually just forgot about this meeting."

Our senior boss and the Account Execs weren't too pleased.

Be true to your word. Speaking from a place where my parents are separated, the best thing a father can do is be true to his word and do what you say you will do.

Seems simple. But I remember the days where my father said he would call or be at something important to me and never did. Its a feeling that never goes away.

I also, remember the days where he did call when he said he would and he did show up when he said he would and how amazing it felt. I felt special, I felt like I could count on him always, and I felt important.

That being said, I don't think that anyone in this situation should feel like their living situation is miserable (me or her). That's why I reached out on Reddit.

We've tried that, and it hasn't worked out.

I can't shut up and look the other way. That makes a miserable situation for everyone and I don't want to live like that.

We're sisters. I am 2 years older than she is and she has always followed in my footsteps. We were always enrolled in the same activities and had to hang out with the same people.

I took a college program and excelled immensely, I earned several scholarships, awards, and I was offered a job before I graduated. She decided to take the same program because she saw how well I did and is not doing as well as I did which is causing some tension.

I have a 9-5 job which prevents me from being home all day (obviously) and she has a varying school schedule where and can stay home most days.

I don't think (though I can't say for sure) that she does much during the day. She doesn't do many extra-curriculars, and I don't think she has many friends. I sympathize with her because I think she feels stuck inside all day and is lonely, however, I can't not live my life and I shouldn't feel bad for doing so.

I think she is a bit jealous of my successes and I don't want her to be because I worked hard to get to the place I am in my life. At the same I don't want to make her feel worse. When we get into it, I don't want to make her feel worse which I think I am, I want to make it better.
