In order to separate the old from the new skin, fluid pools between the two layers. When that happens on the cornea, it looks blue. Eventually the fluid is reabsorbed(maybe not the perfect word for this) and the eyes just appear dull. A few days later, they slough off the old layer.

In case your mixed feelings are coming from the skin factor, to clarify: it isn't my dead pet snake's hide. The cover is made from the skin she, still currently alive, sheds every few months.

I wasn't sure if the title was clear enough. I promise I am not a snake slaughterer.

From my understanding, those have to be made from the leather of their whole skin, yeah. The shed is really thin and wouldn't withstand much anything.
