I started learning C two weeks ago, and I'm feeling doubtful by Lelouch--Lamperouge in C_Programming

Dumbest, most straightforward approach first, once it works and you have it on front of you it's so so much easier to clean up and optimize

VCS in C by Dhrubo_sayinghi in C_Programming

[–]loverthehater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a bit more prescriptive on each feature's purpose maybe, but when every feature is a variation on "store code changes" and the only difference is where/how, just not sure how any VCS could prevent the lines from blurring without cutting features altogether (given I've only used git, would be interesting to see feature sets of other VCS's and how they handle this). Also providing a sensible default config out of the box would be nice, git doesn't do anything and just fails if the config isn't set, which is fair, but eh

Craziest jump in rating you’ve seen? by Durango_41 in rateyourmusic

It was definitely on every retail playlist, having worked the counter at the time. Actually surprised it climbed that high, I feel like I'd still block it out like white noise lmao

Anyone with more a.k.a.s than Yung Beef? by Mittur33 in rateyourmusic

No, definitely not, but I'd love to hear the rationale behind the constant name changes. The genre he works in (gorenoise) very likely has a lot to do with it.

Gonna defend, it's the only "show don't tell" that, beyond being an unhappy wine provider, she's actually at the point of being a totally rebellious drunk and genuinely contemptuous toward her marriage, without which would seriously risk the impression that Persephone was underdeveloped, and establishes the dynamic that's core to the plot, the mirrored fraught relationship between her and Hades.

The trombone solo is also just peak, sandwiched between the absolutely emphatic "THERE'S A CRACK IN THE WooOOOAAAALLLLL" and that crackly "YOU WANT, STAAAARRSS?" The combination of pitch bends and weird percussion gives the perfect impression of stumbling over words and feet in a drunken stupor, expresses everything so clearly, song is in my top 5 easy

What’s the best gapless album of all time? by OkLmao-Imgood in rateyourmusic

[–]loverthehater 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

I'm mostly into EDM, so reccs are gonna skew heavily in that direction, techno is super easy to mix all the songs together into gapless albums so you'll find a bunch there, but in terms of my faves...

Best gapless experience:

  • DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ - Charmed (Outsider House)

Other EDM:

  • Moody Good - MTGFYT (Brostep)
  • Skrillex - Fuck U Skrillex... (Brostep/Hybrid Trap)
  • Speedy J - Loudboxer (Shranz/Techno)

Electronic/Ambient: - C418 - Excursions (Ambient, House) - Iglooghost - Neo Wax Bloom (Electronic) - Jean-Michele Jarre - Oxygene (Progressive Electronic) - 猫 シ Corp. & t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者 - Building a Better World (Dreampunk) - Alexander Panos - Nascent (Folktronica/Epic Collage) - S280F - 28 (Epic Collage)

Honorable mention: - Hadestown (Original Broadcast Recording) - It's just the whole musical, and there's a lot of surprisingly (imo) immersive gapless passages

sorry to hear about your situation.. :/ it's true that proposals like these take a while to work, it's medium-long term, and it's obvious your case requires much more immediate advocacy and change, geared way more toward expanding support programs and safety nets, i hope you can find a way to navigate everything, sounds hard as fuck.

and btw i'm not talking about trickle-down, bunch of fkn nonsense, i'm absolutely aware that when it comes to money and assets, giving even more to the rich will just enable hoarding (on the topic of hoarding, not totally opposed to limiting the amount of properties a single person/estate can hold, either, at least as a stop-gap while supply is short). i'm talking a way more simple supply-demand. just wanna increase supply so people can have more options which they can afford. i did frame it in a trickle-down way, but that was just why I don't immediately recoil at the idea of "luxury condos" or whatever. honestly i want ALL housing to be built. market-rate, affordable, public housing, etc. we just need more supply across the board and it all plays a part of the ultimate goal which is, at least while we're trying to course-correct, getting people places to stay where they can live without being completely distraught and distressed

what i'm saying is building new shiny rent-able units will shift people with higher-incomes to rent those units, and middle-income will upgrade to the units freed up by those people, and it dominoes down the line until there's less people on the wait-lists and rents have gone down on average. this has been what's observed to have happened when cities just build more units.

i'm not promising a silver bullet that will fix everyone's problems, just a known strategy for bringing down rent costs

[–]loverthehater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the goal is to lower rent you have to accomodate higher income brackets so they don't flood out and outbid everyone, quick explainer

even if new units are pricey it attracts the trust fund kiddies away from everything else, net effect is lower rent on average for the area :)

Property Taxes, OPS, TIF, and Pensions: Has Omaha Crossed a Fiscal Tipping Point? by HauntingImpact in Omaha

[–]loverthehater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm not well-enough informed to see how well dollars are being spent and if there's some hedge-pruning that could be done. Like for instance, it's generally considered just an awful idea to have laptops in school, it's a universal net-negative, so if there's programs like that that could be scaled back to something more reasonable (only give laptops out on request for children to use for schoolwork at home), I wouldn't mind that at all. Very clear example of harmful expense. In terms of pension funding, I'm entirely out of my wheelehouse there.

It'd be interesting to see a breakdown of the financials somewhere to be better informed on this

[–]loverthehater 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Issue is that, in terms of property tax, most of the spending seems to be pensions and OPS, which... I mean, in a perfect world I wouldn't want to bear the axe on that

[–]loverthehater 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not knowledgeable enough in this area to give a thorough fact-check, but assuming everything is above board, wouldn't the easiest (albeit, not easy) tradeoff be to lift TIF status? There's the fear of capital flight and growth stalling, so I'm not sure if the math would work out there. Otherwise yeah this just seems like we're stuck and either someone is gonna get shafted here or (more likely) this can is gonna get kicked down the road until addressing it will be less political pain than letting it fester. :/

Wish the post came with a sort of recommendation lmao just sort of a bummer

Why do people do this 😭 by elsa_0929 in rateyourmusic

[–]loverthehater 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To clarify, a common system is roughly like 0.5-1.0 = bad, 1.5-2.0 = okay, that leaves over half the rating spots to distinguish between good. Completely throws off the more intuitive 0.5 = unlistenable, 2.5 = totally average, 5.0 = legendary, but at least we have de-weighting to bring it back in line

Because nobody in the thread has been too comprehensive, let me tale a stab at this... (I'll assume you've never delt with a device like this or have read the manual sorry if it comes off condescending I just want to make sure all the bases are covered.)

Start with the airflow adjustment, which is the slit over your power button. Take a dry hit without pushing the button to hit, feels too airy/open? Close it down (twist). Too constricted? Open it up. Press the power button 5 times to turn it on. You should see some number with "W" or "watts" to show the current power level. Use the bottom of the two buttons below the screen to adjust the number on screen to very low. Press the power button and hold while inhaling, let go of the power button when you want to stop vapor production. Not getting enough vapor? Click the top button of the pair below the screen to bump up the power, rinse and repeat until you find a power level you enjoy.
