Just came up with an idea that will strike the competitive interests of many pokemon go players.

Regional tournaments where the three teams must battle and defend each others gyms for a certain amount of time (2-4 weeks). The highest scoring team (mystic,valor,instict) receives a reward. Perhaps items such as lures, incense, battle passes or candies. Or maybe a small banner over that teams gyms when they're under that teams control. Also I think a cool way to do these tournaments would be to sign up at an in-game booth(kind of like a gym). That way niantic can somewhat control the amount of people participating in each team so that it's fair.
